Just a note -- Choi weaves the foot to the near hip, not the far hip. I find myself doing it this way as a man with shorter legs.
@MOG3
@MOG3 Месяц назад
Nice! The problem is found with that is that you are controlling the arm on one side and if you control the hip on the same side and not on the far side then you have no control on both side of the body, so your opponent can circle and diminish pressure on the elbow preventing a break

Thanks for the video! Can octopus work against much bigger and stronger guys? I've been able to get to it on them, but struggle to build up to my elbow
@MOG3
@MOG3 3 месяца назад
Not gonna lie, the bigger they are the harder this technique becomes. Generally if somebody is very big dont try ri lift their waist up but rather try to make space and move yourself around and catch them in turtle

My OP always escapes his leg out once I get to backside, before I can pass ankle for heel hook. How are you trapping his leg, is it triangled?
@MOG3
@MOG3 5 месяцев назад
You need to push his foot against his own butt at the same time to bend the leg and make it mechanically harder to slip the knee line, it also give you the knee line back in case this has slipped out already

2:35 Why do we always break towards the legs? My instructor doesn’t care which direction we apply as long as there is pressure under the fulcrum
@MOG3
@MOG3 7 месяцев назад
Because when you break towards the legs it makes it impossible for them to hitchhike escape

Very technical. A few things Bernardo emphasized was to do 100 Turkish get ups a day. He also made sure to look at the guys hands while staying on his side. He did not want his spine on the mat. He would also push with his shoulder to off balance the guy. The arm which most people try to underhook would attack the back of the knee pit with the knuckles. When he was underneath me, the pressure from his shoulder and his hand I would normally try to underhook was destabilizing. His elbow was also really tight to his hip so if you try to underhook, the guy on top would have to lean his body out of position. This is when he would execute his sweep.
