Wait: in the first minute of this video I heard whoever produced this -- you, GG? -- add "background music" to Ray's demonstration of Riders. It isn't merely that that kind of thing is unnecessary; it's that it ruins the usefulness of the video. I know you can do better so please do.
I don’t get how Jerry Scheff couldn’t do the bass line for riders. It’s super easy, buuuuut maybe he’s misremembering and its Lover Her Madly or something. That one gets weird/fun.
Nobody talks about Robbie. Without him we wouldn´t have Light my fire AND he fit the Doors mindset perfectly. It was just one of those magical moments where just the right people are drawn together to make timeless art.
People equate the Doors with Jim Morrison and " The Lizard King" and whatever that silliness was but Ray was an amazing musician and a very kind intelligent person. I believe Ray was the older brother to the other guys and without him , we wouldn't have had the Doors.
What a totally accomplished musician and human being Ray was...Tom Hanks could make a dead ringer for him if ever they make a biography.... he could be Rays younger brother...
I didn't grow up with the doors. I was to young but light my fire had an upswing in the end of the 80s. I think it was in a movie. However I won a new edition of a record with the best of the Doors. I really love the sound of their music and fell in love with it as soon as I heard it. This video is a real gem. Love it!
Man, what a carefree and joyful guy--but also professional and superbly competent at what he does. If only Jim had picked up on that and put down the bottle.
Insane to think that he only died at 27 and left such a big mark. Imagine how much more genius work The Doors could’ve created throughout the 70’s and 80’s if Jim had been around a little longer.
