Hey Garrett, thank you for the video. I was getting tap by this choke but I was landing on his full guard and he was only using on arm to finish it. I've looked all over RU-vid to learn how to defend it but no one has made a video for it. Can you please make a video on how to defend it? Thanks
The website in your description is not clickable! Make sure to put the full website in the description and not just the www part. I'm featuring your video soon.
Possibly the best video on youtube on how to effectively put your opponent in a forward head lock. Thank you for not making this instructional video more difficult to understand than it has to be. I'm a novice and appreciate you!
This doesnt work if he locks it in completely.. Hand on the biceps, other hand behind his head which makes it much more tighter and then if he goes knee on belly to prevent you from following him up in side control and put his wight away from you, it gets so tight that this telephone thing wont help at all.
Did you not listen at all? The whole point is to defend it before he locks it in. That's like saying ducking a punch doesn't work if they knock you out you before you duck. I don't mean to be rude but your reply was pretty god damn stupid
Sage didn't tap to arm triangle he tapped to a von flue choke which looks very similar, but during arm triangle your body is on the same side of the choke while during von flue it's on the opposite and you use your shoulder pressure to close the blood flow, hope that gave you some insight m8 :)
After you double swim and drive why not just throw his legs to ether side which would put you in position for side mount? Maybe I'm missing something or I should just use both?
You never want to just throw the legs to the side. You relieve pressure and give him space. If you do that he has time to re-guard or scramble out. When you bring the knee to the nose you are essentially stacking him which keeps him pinned and controls while you maintain pressure and insure you keep side control or side mount which every you prefer to call it. Thats why you don't throw the legs. Most beginners and wrestler just throw the legs and thats why you will see them and lower levels only exciting the pass about 10-50% of the time when you pressure the whole time you see it go to about 70-99%. play with it in drilling and live training and you will see the difference. Enjoy!
Garrett Goldsberry Okay I see that, if you let go to throw he has time to re-guard. What if you maintain control and push the legs left or right while still in control? I guess the main thing I'm looking for is not having to transition myself into side control but rather set him in position so I can just lay back down into side control.
There are many ways to perform this choke. I'm just giving you 1 of many options to finish the arm triangle. Check out some more of my videos on this channel. I will be updating them soon also. Thanks for viewing and posting :)
the guy on top has two free hands to stop that reversal (it´s just a sweep if you do it from a type of guard). If he straighten his legs, his base will be much lower and it becomes even more difficult to bump him over. no offense sir, just some constructive criticism
I have never taken wrestling throughout my whole life. I'm currently taking a judo class through the college. We were trying to force our opponents (uki) onto an X on the mats. I was against a taller guy and he was dragging me. I placed my feet on the ground, and tried to get him to the ground. I don't even know how it happened, but I accidentally performed this AND got his back straight onto the X. I thank you guys for demonstrating this move, and for been mentioning Judo and Gi's in this vid
You can get much power & leverage into this choke if you hop off to the same side as YOUR head & then drop your hips right down & drive forward with your toes. You've just got to do it sensibly to avoid getting caught in half guard. If you're still struggling then from that same position start walking round towards the head.
This is the first actual guard pass I was ever taught. And let me just say, with my ridiculously long legs, I hit this baby all the time. Thanks again for the time spent on your mats, Garrett. However limited it was.
Can't believe how old this video actually is. Great to see Tyler at work. And I'm pretty sure I'd recognize Dan's coaching anywhere, right? Awesome video.
I catch a hip up sweep every time i try that pass. It's looks simple. But of course the guy isn't just laying there. He's fighting for sweeps and chokes. AAAAAahhh. Why can't i pass the guard???
