Fishing the Lower Laguna Madre. The shallow pristine waters of the bays in South Texas hold many species of fish, mostly what we pursue are the Speckled Trout and the Reds. Getting the chance to see turtles up close is an added bonus.
Sorry to hear that. I've had the same issue, years ago when I started fishing the Lower Laguna Madre. I'm always learning. We were east of the weather station. Hope you find em next time.
Much easier to find the fish in a boat, however, you could drive SPI north toward Port Mansfield and then walk the bay area to fish. That would be a lot of walking. Alfonso Sanchez out of SPI charges $150 per wader with your own gear and he knows where the fish are. Went with him when my boat was getting maintenance.
The lure we are using is a Marker 212 rig. The top part has no hooks and rattles when twitched, acts like a cork. The bottom part is a twist lock jighead and I like to use a paddletail gulp in white and chartreuse.
Great shot! you can clearly see the moment it is transonic Great perspective, too! I watched the first launch from the highway youre on but I decided I wanted to watch it from the amphiteatre at Isla Blanca in case the fog was going to be an issue like it was the first time. Could you feel the blast wave from where you were? With every pop there was a blast wave associated with it. It was amazing!
You can keep them with a tag for over the slot of 27 inches. The big ones like that don’t taste good though. They are the breeders and lay a lot of eggs, we let them go.
Not always, sometimes we use gulp under a popping cork, other times they are hitting Dirty Tequila baits my friends like to use. About to post another video where we caught them on topwater lures. Very exciting catching them on topwater lures. Good Luck out there and God Bless.
