Ha! The problematic nature of internet searches. This showed up in my rabbit hole because I was sharing the song with an ex-bandmate. I was sharing the song with said friend because when I last listened to this in the car the other day, I kinda felt like Luke was channeling Dann Huff in the lead-out fills. Dann & Luke are both among my favourite artists. Anyway.. Sweet..
First and foremost, thanks for making the video. You have the notes correct. However, the way you're playing it and structuring your chords Why not stick to the Am chord structure and hammer on to the open E? You can accomplish the same thing.
It's all because of the phrasing, the way that Def Leppard play it. You can hear notes that are picked, where notes aren't ringing (suggesting single note lines rather than chords), notes that slide and hammer on etc. You can also see here that's the way they play it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Y-2rJHaTWFg.htmlsi=takpnDXotbHCq18m&t=381
I’m considering this guitar so this was really useful. Thank you. You might try a dab of Loctite blue threadlock on that screw that’s coming loose. It helps fix but isn’t permanent so you can get the screw out if needed.
This picking pattern is so stupidly difficult, it's hilarious that it's not a shredding lick at 240bpm. Back in the '90's they used to play this song a lot faster live and there's even an acoustic version. Watching him destroy that loop over a 5 minute song is astounding. BTW the picking Paul used is even more confusing that what you did. He played it "U, D, U, U, D, U, D, U" I believe. It's not strictly alternate, but it's very "Paul Gilbert" with his early guitar experience of playing only upstrokes 🤣 6:03 just got to this part of the video :D
Thanks for the great and honnest review. What bothers me with those kind of guitars is the aging, in the long term ... We know PRS (and other manufacturers) decrease the price by using less paid labor in Indonesia, but also by using cheaper materials (tuners, bridge, pick ups), but also cheaper woods .... You can still change hardware or pick ups, but you cannot change the wood ! and we know that multi pieces of wood body and neck are less stable in the long term ... This is what bothers me with those guitars (and not just PRS !). It was a common think, when those guitars were first released, that they were made to allow you to enter in the PRS family and, after a while, giving you the desire to upgrade and buy a S2 or a Core model ... Nowadays, the dream of having one day a Core is not possible to a lot of people (I got mine on the second hand market, and I would never jeopardize my children's studies by purchasing a brand New Core model). What I am saying is that when you buy a 1000 $ guitar is that you expect them to last and I am not sure how they age. I should probably check reviews of people still having their first SE .... I am a big fan of David Grissom, I enjoy everything he played with Storyville, and I love gold top guitar, so I NEED this one, I will check this guitar in my store, especially will be checking the neck and electronics (I read a lot of bad things about issues on this guitar model)
Great thoughts, thanks for sharing. I still love this guitar and yes time well tell to see how it ages. The electronics are probably the main gripe but is easily fixable. For instance right now I have to fiddle with the switch to get the bridge pick up to work every time I change pick ups.
How do you record your guitar that sound so good? Do you have to sync the video and audio after youre done recording with your guitar?. Is your cam connected to your audio interface?
I do it a little differently depending on the tune. My guitar goes into my Kemper which plugs into my audio interface. I sync the camera audio with what I record in logic when I’m editing the videos.
I have always loved your song choices..!! Your song selections are a sort of niche(?) stepping out from the typical ones. Just a side story though, Mr. Big was very popular in Japan especially back in 80~90’s and I went to their first concert in Osaka(home of Loudness..) and saw a good number of local “pro-guitar shredder guys” come to see Paul… ( I remember he made a mistake during his solo time and he had a face “oh shxxxxt..!”. 😉 ) After he left Mr. Big (then Richie took his position), he lived in Japan for a while and joined some of the local pro. bands who play Japanese pop songs on TV afternoon talk shows. I remember an article Paul saying, it was eye opening experience and learned a lot from them. (perhaps not shredding through… 😉 ) I think composing a song like this distinguishes Paul from other shredders… He is a good rock composer, too..
This was awesome. I think the tone is near perfect and the best I have heard on RU-vid. Most use a SLO with effects. I think the effects here are near perfect.
Technically yes, but it's what you don't play that gives the flavour. So, in this case he's clearly (IMHO) targeting 5 note scales. In this case A minor (A C D E G). If it was just G major, you'd be hearing the B and F#.
i changed my tuning to Drop C from Standard tuning. Now My trem bar goes down but doesnt go up. Any suggestions on how to fix it. I have an RG Prestige.
That’s quite a drastic change, you’ll need to take the back plate off and adjust the two claw screws that are there. If you look at your tremolo, you’ll see that it’s probably sitting back in the cavity meaning you have to tighten the screws.
I have a PRS Custom 22 with a solid rosewood neck. It's all the "Les Paul" that I need. I just don't care for Les Pauls. I love the way they look and sound, but they're just uncomfortable to play for me. I can get pretty much the same tones(or close enough) with my PRS.
Like others have mentioned, a dab of Loc-tite will remedy the grub screw backing out. Just be sure to get either Loc-tite 222 or 242. Some of the other Loc-tite formulas require heat to remove the screw. You don't want that on your guitar! 🤣
Fucking beautiful man, this is probably my favorite guitar riff ever, but I'm still kinda new and having trouble. Is there any chance you could upload a tab? The only other one I found sounded like crap but you literally sound like the song, good shit❤🫡🔥
Respectfully, the Tonal Centre of this song is Em (Em pentatonic or G major). Great breakdown of the Chord inversions. Even the chords direct the tonal Centre as Em/G
