I'm reminded of the box squats in Louie's basement in the early days. He had made a rack there and, before anybody, he had us (me) doing box squats with six hundred pounds as light heavyweights (181). After while I just refused to do them anymore because I always thought I was going to pass out, repping so fast. Too late. My squats had already gone up astronomically even if I never did another box squat. That's what it was like working out with Louie. Later, while he was testing out some shorts sewn for him out of canvas with thread like you would use to make boat sails, I laughed my ass off when they exploded with his 600 lb. squats and dust actually came up off the floor. 😀
stance depends a lot on your posture. people with longer legs usually stand wider than shorter people. i can't keep my feet to close together otherwise i am not utilizing my hips to their full extent during the movement
It was a charity fundraiser, so not 100% fair dinkum. Howwever, I would say that the players always take pride in getting one over the other players, even if it is an exhibition / fundraiser.
From my personal point of view, the wide stance box squat really helps to strengthen the hips like no other. Stronger hips are an advantage for any athlete, correct?
The weight our on the Powerpole really hits the lower back, and hamstrings. It really doesn't take much weight at all - even 10 kg's half way our and go for a short walk, the Posterior Chain will get a HIGE workout with no Lumbar Compression. Of course, like any exercise, always take it easy at first and build up - it's not an exercise where you would try for massive 1 rep maxes. It can be used while just walking for G.P.P., Squatting, Deadlifting, it can even be used while standing overhear Pressing for more Core activation. www.torontobarbell.com/power-harness

Good to see lifting from a fellow aussie. I am trying to up my numbers significantly also. If you have questions just ask and more then happy to help lifters out.
Thanks. This video is 11 years old [I'm getting lots of my old training footage up here]. Since these days, I have hit much bigger numbers. All the best.
I originally had some of these up years ago, but I wanted to re organise it all, and add some of those old rugby league games I played in back in the 1990's, and it went from there. Some people had never seen those old games, nor had they seen some of those old Powerlifting comps from that era either.
