Alpha Troop, 5/15 '09. Heartbreak, Misery, and Agony were still alive and well. We also didnt sing cadence while running, because we were running too fast. Last cycle that "wall-to-wall" training was allowed. 50% attrition rate. The most fun I never want to have again.
It is not far from Taukkunen barracks, you take the tunnel under the tracks which can be seen from barracks now a hotel. Once you go thru the tunnel it is on the left.

It Jan. 15th, 1973, I was 19yrs old grew up in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida when I got off the bus at Ft. Knox, Kentucky I'd thought I stepped into a whole new world. Cold to the bone and shaking due the winter. My draft number that year was 55, and I knew where they would send me if I got drafted. So, to avoid being drafted I joined the Army for 3 years and was promised (not that I believed them) stateside for one year. Wouldn't you know 12 days later Nixon dropped the draft. Spent the next eight weeks in Basic Training in the cold part of my known world. From here I went to Fort Gordon, Ga. for A.I.T. as a Military Police. First duty station Ft. Stewart, Ga, then south again to Opa-Locka, Fl with Awol/App team, then southeast to San Juan, Puerto Rico where I remained until Jan. 15th, 1976. Looking back, I wouldn't have changed anything. Norm
Mike , I was there a year later in Jan - Mar 73. Very similar story . Hated long marches on Agony and Misery . Got URI and was in the same hospital and almost got sent back . I went Germany for 1st and 37 th out of Ansbach for the rest of my tour . Thanks for posting this . Brought back memories .
I was there the years 1970-1971 please do anyone remember the statue of 2 little boys facing each other look's to be holding a large tall basket of fish. I had my picture taken with 2 veiws in 1970.
man I was there in the 90s with a joint training barracks buildings still standing then :) Remember some "art" on the walls from I guess the 70s pretty cool and the old cook with a cig in her mouth asking about grits LOL
Ft. Knox, August 72 to Oct. 72, A co. 13th Training Battalion 4th Training Brigade. I was the platoon guide for my platoon. I lost 35 lbs. And was tough as nails. I did not enjoy every minute, but overall, I obviously made it. A.I.T. at Ft. Huachuca, Arizona. MOS 17L Airborne Sensor Specialist later changed to 96H, Aerial Intelligence Specialist. Flew Right seat in an OV-1 MOHAWK. secondary MOS 71P Flight Operations Specialist. Fond memories now. I wish I knew where my old buddies are now?
I miss sounding off during PT. I haven't heard those "SONGS" in over thirty years and I still remember them. It literally takes your mind away from fatigue. You could run all day!!!! 92Y "Quartermaster Soldier"!!!
I got goosebumps hearing them call cadence. We were in the new buildings and the sound bouncing off of the buildings was cartoon loud but sergeant loved it.👍🏾
I took basic and AIT here in 1975 for the Michigan Nat. Guard. B-17-5. I understand all those wooden WW2 barracks are all gone now. "Disneyland," was where we took tank training. Also, there were only two of us who knew how to drive a stick shift so we ended up with cush jobs driving trucks.
Why we did three hills? I knew something was wrong with our drill Sargents. Spider man seemed to pop up anytime. We knew he didn't have a girl.🤓 Yeah! Agony Misery and Heartache. One guy dropped midway Up misery we had to carry him to the top where the ambulance waited.
I chose 19D and was assigned to Disney barracks Ft Knox KY, Jan 1991 for OSUT Basic training/AIT with Charlie Troop 1/15th Cav. I had forgotten many things before you showed them in your video including Initial Issue. Zero Week/reception was so weird. It was the first time I slept in WW2 Barracks and man those things were the best. The shower was so strong it made me feel cleaner than I had ever been in my short life. Marches, Classes, Ranges, Land Nav, Call for Fire, PT Tests. My cereal froze over during the first field exercise. My M16 was made by GM Hydramatic who also built transmissions. My ASVAB scores were very high and like an idiot I turned down the opportunity to learn Mandarin or Farsi at the DLI on the Presidio of Monterey in California. Went to jump school after Ft Knox, then got stationed at Ft Bragg in 1/17 Cav driving a HMMWV. Good times.
So I'm now a contract instructor for ROTC and was back at Ft Knox for cadet Summer training earlier this summer, 35 years after I did basic. What a shock! All the old WWII buildings were gone. Since the armor had relocated, a number of major commands had moved their Hqs on post. Knox feels more like an office park now than a military base.
I went on Google earth and hardly recognized the place. I went a similar route but 10 years earlier. Ben Harrison I had a great time up there. Females all over the place. First time away. We had a ball🤓👍🏾
I would not normally reply to comments like this, but your ignorance is noteworthy. Yes, I was offered OCS during my AIT. Who said that I had no college? I had one year completed at OSU, while in Europe I completed an AA degree from the University of Maryland and completed my first BS degree when completing my active duty. Oh, they also offered me helicopter flight training while in basic. I was honor graduate in all of my military training. Before getting off active duty I was teaching physics and chemistry at a school in Fort Belvoir. The only BS and ignorance come from your short, uninformed comment. But thank you anyway.
I went through basic and AIT (OSUT) at Ft. Knox from March '77 to June '77. It seems not much had changed during the 5 years from this video to my time. 11D Cav Scout - Scouts Out!
I got there right behind you jul 77. Bravo 15th bn 4th trg bde. Hot summer that year. Turned 17 on my graduation day. Still didn't have no hair on my face yet 🤓✌🏾
@@WarrenHollyYeah, it was a hot summer in '77. I was only 17 and had no facial hair as well! We grew up fast, Brother, and here we are. Have a great Holiday!
I was there a year later. I still remember SFC Jackson who called me slim. The day at Reception we got hair cuts it take a day to sort out who was who. The day we received out M-16, the company lined up at one of those single story warehouse Bldg and we just ran by the door and the threw the M-16's out the and you prayed you didn't drop it. A guy about 10 to 15 people ahead of me stopped just before the door. His M-16 hit the blacktop an and cartwheeled across the road. We all just froze and watched. The SGM was there also frozen in time. A sec later he was face to face with the trainee using soon very choice words. I remember the trainee say he was a conscious objector and would never touch a gun. Some more colorful language. We never some him again.
