Man, I feel like I'm the only one who prefer Most Wanted. I think the songs are way better. Bret McKenzie finally found his own Muppet sound in that film, I thought he was trying too much to sound like Paul Williams in the 2011 one.

I loved the movie when I saw it in '79. It really succeeded in bushels bringing the Muppets into the real world. That was the big risk, that this could totally fail. But it worked and it was magic, and even today at the age of 50 I find it hysterically funny and charming.

To me, it sounds like you are avoiding Disney Animated Studios and Studio Ghibli, given that you are this early in the list and haven't covered the greats yet. So I will recommend a very contemplative and dreamlike Japanese film, "Night on the Galactic Railroad." RE: Cultural impact, I think you scored that a little too low. I agree with what you said about the movie vs. the show in modern culture. However, I think you overlooked how huge of an event this was for kids when it came out. This movie was a BIG deal, comparable to the first Pokémon film.

Hot take: I think the movies from the 50s are better than the golden age movies.

Your video is strange. You know about the abysmal marketing that doomed the movie, but you spend most of the video pretending the movie wasn't well received or ballooned over budget; false narratives that people who don't know better assume are true. Read "The Gods of Hollywood" by Michael D. Sellers. It does a great job getting into the many details of what really made this masterpiece flop.

Convenience killed story telling and variety in entertainment. Without VHS/DVD sales to balance the cost of making films, many movie genres died. Dramas, comedies, romance, historical films fell by the wayside and replaced in large part with spectacle movies. Many of which are absolutely trash. Without the ability to earn money via DVD sales to balance box office, executives just don't take risks on art and/or story telling anymore and instead opt for the vapid eye candy that we gobble up like rats pounding the feeder bar. The prevalence of streaming is exactly why.

Pinocchio the book was written in 1883, so how could Geppeto be a Nazi? The Disney adaptation of the book of course was filmed in 1940. The Nazi Party didn't become a thing until the 1920s following WW1. Unless you are talking about the voice actor who was apparently a Nazi sympathizer.

What about Brian Hensons Happy Time Murders? Never saw it, but I saw the trailer and it freaked the shite out of me. Simulated sex and Melissa Mckartnee made this film a stinking bomb and rightly so. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XF9Lyb5UJHo.htmlsi=Op-CZt6wb1VjnCAR

The more recent "Mayhem" series started to hit back to the nostalgia tones and felt like a good "Where are they now?" that both new and long time fans could enjoy but, yeah, it saddens me that Henson's legacy kind of got kicked to the corner.

Frozen had no plot, direction, character development, or vision. It was a senseless musical with vain and unlikable characters. Yeah I guess you're right, it did influence a whole generation of people that are just about as vapid and aimless as that trainwreck of an animation.

The addition of magic, by making Nicodemus a friggin' wizard, was largely from Bluth's original writing partner, a sci-fi author. The man introduced some "really makes you think" lines at the end of the script, something about "the rats maybe being a collective hallucination". That inspired Don so much, he wrote his own script full of mystical and mysterious stuff. What is my source? Animated Films of Don Bluth by John Cawley (or Cawey?). I don't like the author too much, but he WAS involved with the production of some of Don's movies, and wrote a book about that. I wish people stopped crediting Walt Disney with most of early Disney output. It is the 9 Old Men, the men Walt hired, who really created the "Disney Style" and wrote most of the scripts.

This dude represents what is wrong with society today - too worried about the past to move forward. What a wimpy generation you represent. I live around Indy and have visited "Uncle Remus" grave at Crow Hill cemetery a number of times. He died not too long after making Song of the South. James Baskett (Remus) won an honorary Academy Award and this became the achievement of his life. You self-righteous assholes have taken this from him and generations to come.

In 2013 Princess kaguya costed billions of dollars of traditional handmade animation with the use of water colour only for big hero 6 to one the Oscars from 2016 (which doesn't even contain any Japanese culture) Netflix klaus took about four years to create such a hybrid 2D animation with SPA studios but was beaten by an unnecessary fourth sequel of Toy story. Then there's Wolfwalkers which was in the making since 2017 with the use of traditional animation only to be ousted by pixar's Soul. A movie I barely even remember that existed. At this point, I don't trust the Oscars any longer.
