You say that reading faces is not real but can you seriously say that you have never thought that someone might be lying to you? Some people are bad liars. Derren happens to be a professional liar detector. You can practice too. Go ask your mom if she loves you.
Derren, being the trickster that he is, uses a lot of techniques that he has developed to "read people". That is the basis of most of his tricks. He has to understand how people will react to things (the direct audience on the street, etc and the home audience) and play with expectations to be entertaining. He gives them the expectation that it is a hard thing to do. He tells them not to react when they hear it but he's really good at telling when you're lying.
Why are you so angry. You do realize the simple act of tricking someone and the act of tricking someone into thinking that they experienced something extraordinary requires some understanding of human psychology. What is psychology? The study of mental functions and behaviors. Even if he can't read people so easily, he tricks the person into thinking that they have been read. Most people are predictable and don't realize at that moment that what Derren does is not that hard (but hard to master).
when darren opens the book he makes sure to stretch so it feels naturally to stop flipping to the pages, he knew already that there was a pop word he always uses swords to persuade the pop, top, etc
Derren makes a point of referencing the number 80. he talks about the publishing date being in the mid-80s, then later the number of pages being 280. unfortunately, you can't see the page number in the video, but my guess is that it's in the mid-80s.

Trust me, its an old method but it is a trick, plus this cant be psychology of any kind. It involves slightly erasing all the numbers other than the one needed.
5 the book is red (people subconsciously choose the colour), he reinforces the choice asking about left- or right-handedness 6. @T3rraBahamut sorry folks on this one.Alot of times we feel the need to understand something.Which is,and can be fun. But I can hear ppl now talking about embedded commands. It just doesnt explain this one
