Bristol Zoo Project is a fun, family attraction that provides outdoor adventure, play and learning. We are now on a journey to create a modern, forward-thinking, conservation-focussed zoo. Formerly Wild Place Project.
I’m confused, some of these clips appear to be from the Dutch zoo, Ouwenhands Dierenpark, where a very similar exhibit exists. I don’t doubt these are clips from Bristol, but I’ve just seen a video from the Dutch zoo and it looks identical…
“…quietly sharing the same space beneath the trees as they would have done in this country thousands of years ago.“ But even during those times in history, and even now in regions where their ranges overlap, they avoid each other! I mean, we’re dealing with MASSIVE wild areas. Compared to an enclosure…They generally AVOID one another in the wild. Even on a good day, carnivores don’t peacefully nap under the trees together. No carnivores really do that, anywhere. Even if it appears that way. They’re naturally competitive towards one another, as predatory species are. In the wild, if given the choice, most predators avoid other predators. A pack of wolves can kill a single bear. And a bear can kill a wolf too. It’s all been taped before. However, here, in a cramped enclosure, they can’t really avoid each other… which makes me think that’s bordering on cruel experiment… maybe it’s a “spacious” enclosure, but not when compared to the wild… to actual woodlands, where I can guarantee you, bears and wolves are NOT hanging out, sleeping “under the boughs of the willows and in amongst the heathers”. Lol. Not in India, not in China, Russia, Turkey, the Middle East, America, or anywhere else where their ranges overlap.
This is hella risky for a zoo. The brief footage they did show of the bear on its back surrounded by wolves - the bear looked pretty stressed! I'm not sure whether I ethically agree with this project.
Yeah it would maybe be cool if the enclosure were… 100 acres or something. Feels a bit like the Roman Coliseum, with exotic animals being pitted against one another… to see what happens.
I have been many times and almost every time the bears and wolves are incredibly relaxed and live in peace, but another great thing about wild place is every habitat is absolutely huge for the species housed in the habitat, it is by far my favourite zoo in the UK that I have been to and I thoroughly recommend a visit, don't judge it until you have been!
Hopefully one day Wolves will come back to Scotland. England probably is not good for them Wolverines and Lynxes can live in both. Bears? Maybe one day.
They're so beautiful! I hope we can one day see these stunning animals roaming our British countryside again through rewilding! I love the idea of 'bear woods' to educate and show the public our once native wildlife. It must be great to be able to see what England used to be like, and what it will hopefully be like again in the not too distant future! :)
Great Video but we should put these in the wild now with the Deer over populated and the Boar starting to do damage now and even the Beaver now populating even more we need these Alpha predators now more than ever.
Well Beavers still have a natural predator the Red Fox so they’re fine. But yeah Wolves and Lynxes defo need to come back in the Highlands and Forest of Dean well maybe just the Lynx for the Forest but still.
Great idea but it’s not that simple. Maybe we can start with the Scottish wildcat not going extinct, and maybe it will even expand its range once again further south. Oh wait, everyone’s pet cats wander around outside and can breed with them… so that’s extinct already. Lol. Maybe lynx should be reintroduced, that would be great, but I think too many people are scared of the possible damage to livestock, and will likely hunt the predators.
Foxes usually eat mice, voles, shrews, moles, rats, reptiles, insects, and anything small they can find. Of course, birds, chickens, etc. too. But they don’t necessarily like water and beavers are pretty big compared to a fox. Sharp teeth, very alert, and they slap the water with their tails to let all the other beavers know when there’s danger. I know that a lost or orphaned baby beaver on land would be an easy target for a fox…but a grown beaver, near the water?
I have a question, the wolves and bears are in the same exibith? Didn't a wolf got killed by bears in a zoo? Is it really a good ideia to join this creatures since they are natural enemys? Loved the video but i'm kinda scared for the future of the wolves.
Yes i saw that video footage. Tragic. Its a little cautious and risky, but ...BUT. Bears and wolves live in the same habitat in the wild, and as long as they are CLOSELY moniutored.
um they dont generally house them with other species and if they do cohabit they generally do so with species that either leave each other well alone or are no threat to each other (I believe here they have wolves in with them and wolves by and large are too small to threaten an adult bear and too fast to be worried about bears eating them..... and if they eat the odd Pidgeon I doubt anyone is going to miss them.....
@@KA47. Not necessarily. That's an ongoing discussion at the moment, whether or not Lynx should be re-introduced to the British Wilderness and possibly Bears and Wolves later.
I went to wild place a week ago and it was really fun and I kept trying to get lots of pictures of the wolves but thay kept going in circles and the leap of faith-swing Was so fun and me and my brother was so scared that we laugh and I wasn't afraid of heights anymore :) and we almost got lost when we were trying to find it and we only saw to signs but in the end we got there and I was so happy and I was wearing My wolf tail and wolf ears because I love wolves and there my favourite animal 🐺 :)
