You can find the line by checking the neutrals for continuity with the ground wire. This is faster and safer. If more than one has continuity there is some problem in the wiring that needs to be solved, or the GFCI will trip immediately. This of course will not work on old two wire installations that have no ground.
Why did you skip the step about the upper trim!?! I’m trying to take one off and idk how that trim is held on. Do I just pull on it ? (Upper small ring close to the l ceiling)
My outaide gfci has 4 wires all where connected to line . It worked when i moved in but no longer working. Should it be wired up like you did in video? And also could it be beginning of a circut ?
I had an exterior one go out and not able to reset. I just replaced it and it works now. Makes me wonder if i turned the breaker switch off and back on if it would of worked. I assumed rain got in and ruined it. Anyway, have a good protector box on it now for rain also.
Is there such a thing as extra deep old work electrical box? I just installed a 2-gang gfci + outlet with USB. It was super tight to put back...any recommendations? Thx.
Good info all round however you can’t be comparing wagos with the cheap push connectors . Wagos are used extensively in Europe and are often the go to for electricians in place of wire nuts. They are industry proven. Push connectors etc I agree 100% but original wagos that are correctly specced if they fail the person installing them doesn’t know what they’re doing
Thank you!! After watching someone not getting the replacement to work, I saw your video..and explained it..while also explaining some of the comments..he did what you said..WORKS NOW!! TY! That saved a lot of aggravation
Hi! I did the connection and thought it worked, but I'm having an issue. The outlet works, but the switch only works when I turn on another switch first. This is a 3-way combo switch with a ground connection. Could this be caused by switching the placement of the two light cables? Thanks!
If I have 3 white wires and 3 black, do I pigtail all of the white and all of the black and then connect them to one of the screws and nothing connected to the bottom screws? Thank you
Hi. Thanks for your video. I have a problem. My outside plugs are powered thru one for. The GFI is controlled via a wall switch from inside a hall closet.i have power to the GFI receptacle however when I reset it the breaker on the panel trips. Is it a bad GFI?
Hello !, I have a mayor problem, I turned off breaker then I instolled two new outlet on and two pandect light on ceiling after all I installed everything and turn on breaker back it work for a few mins. then it cut off by it self but breaker remain on and I checked the line a few time to see what cause it and still I'm confuse what went wrong can anyone be kind help me figure this out please .
QUESTION: The bathroom GFCI worked fine for many years. But it recently tripped. The "Power" still works. The "Reset" button is sticking out while the "Test" button is pushed in. But, when I press the "Reset" button to try to make it so the "Reset" button is pushed in again, the "Reset" button will not remain pushed into the wall. I then tried resetting everything at the Circuit Box. But, this didn't solve anything. Do you have any advice? ... Also, as a replacement, should I get the 15 Amp or 20 Amp?
You just solved my problem! My GFCI outlets were wired through the garbage disposal switch, and I had to turn it on before the outlets would reset. Thanks very much for your video!
You are an excellent teacher. It's a gift. Thanks to your detailed explanations my GFCI, and therefore my bathroom outlets, are working again. Thank you very very much for helping us.
I'm only 1.22 minutes into your video and I already know I hit the jackpot when it comes to having a professional and an expert teach me how to solve my problem!
@@remoteelectrician yeah I changed out the gfi and still not working.. I have a green light going to the new gfi out let but still no juice going to the outlet… I’m thinking it’s a circuit breaker
Thank you! This video helped me fix outlets in the kitchen that were not working. There were 2 outlets with reset buttons and apparently I had to reset in a specific order. I couldn't tell which outlets were downstream of the others. One other outlet (without a reset) was not working either. But now ALL are working again. Just wish I understood the flow of these damn outlets!
The outlets "downline" from the GFCI outlets were working fine until the outlet was tripped due to an overload. After resetting the GFCI outlet reset there is no power to the downline outlets even though the GFCI breaker in the breaker panel and the GDCI main outlet has power. Could the "load"side of the GFCI outlet be bad and that GFCI outlet needs to be replaced?
Quick question yesterday I replaced a hardwired dishwasher that had a 2 gang box under kitchen cabinets that shut power to the dishwasher so I shut switch confirmed no juice undid the wire nuts removed wire from the dishwasher reattached the wire nuts left switch in off position. Replaced dishwasher got everything looking pretty all connections were made go to flip switch inside cabinets to liven up dishwasher and nothing so I check power into the switch no power check breaker for that circuit it’s on it was labeled kitchen outlets and dishwasher I stuck a plug in tester in all the outlets wired correctly and all are working. No holes were drilled in the process no screws potentially driven into a wire behind a wall. I’m at a loss for what the solution is
I had actually replace a gfci outlet that makes a loud sound when tripped with a plug tester I payed attention to where the wires were at detached the line to wire into the new gfci(with usb plugs and uses pigtails) then wired the ground then when I wired the load I removed the wire nuts on it to attach it using wago 221 lever nuts
I’m completely lost. I ran power to a box for my first switch and then I also ran a three-way wire from that to another switch and from that box regular 14 to wire to my ceiling light fixture. The first box that you showed doesn’t explain about the power, entering the box and the three-way line exiting the box.
Thank you for your video! I was having issues with my garbage disposal and cannot get the outlet to reset. Once I switched on, I was able to reset it. I appreciate the help!
Omg, for 3 years I couldn’t use the outlet in my bathroom. Your 6 minute video clear, straight fixed my problem easily! You saved me money and future headaches. Thank you so much for sharing this knowledge 😊
I need your help! Im getting no power from my outdoor outlet and in the breaker box nothing is jumped so i cant reset it. The GFCI is a little bit more modern and dont have the cemter reset/test buttons. What can i do?
hi. yes. you need to know if it's getting power. if it looks like regualer outlet. then your gfci outlet is somewhere esle inside/garage etc. which is feeding outdoor outlet.
I SPENT COUPLE OF DAYS trying to figure this out!! I thought might be a short in any of the outlets in that circuit, but NONE! THANKS for helping me learn to determine the LOAD SIDE, and the LINE SIDE!! That's the KEY TO THIS. I switched the wires and BINGO! SHE CLICKED just like she should!! THANKS AGAIN!!
