Kingston a great stop, with Portsmouth Olympic harbor with a ton of facilities located mid town, confederation basin down town, Kingston Marina on the other side of the causeway up the great cat river, and then on the other ide of the great cat river, cfb kingston has its own marina. small city of about 100k with no less then 4 marina's + private docks.
i'd love to do this, but i'd prefer to do it in a slightly larger cruiser. if you could only modify an c-dorry 22 to have a head and darkwter tank, cuz the portapoty it has isn't ontario legal.
Love the travel, love the meteorologist humor. I live in Montreal (Lasalle) in an apartment. No room for a nice boat. So I live my adventures through people like you. Thank you for the video.
Interesting to see how you can go from one major city to another by boat. I’m guessing your boat has all the amenities of a small apartment like a bed, kitchen and bathroom with a shower…..
Great concept behind the journey (smallish boat, lowish cost), but not much on sleeping, cooking, eating, storage, bathroom use, socializing, and so on on such a boat. Those are big parts of boating on a small boat. Fun overall. Cheers
Good point. We cut all that out but that is vital info for aspiring boaters, isn't it?? Hmm... for Season 3 we are working on a new Odyssey and should include that stuff. Thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching!
i don't get it. The fact that the media spends more time talking about nonsensical allegations that Biden has dementia than the fact that a fraudster, tax evader, grifter, sex offender and convicted felon is even on the ballot is mindboggling. The media says the debate is very important. At best it might be entertaining to watch to see how unhinged Trump might be but anyone with any sense of reason should have already figured out that there is only one option if they don' want America to spiral out of control.
Hey All Caps Likely Bot comment ;) It's at 08:57. We make a specific point to mention it. If real: Future tip: watch the video before commenting. Either way, thanks for the interaction! #metricsFTW Cheers, Steve
wow, change one bulb and your boat is ready to go anywhere. Obviously I hope you had someone go over the engine, oils, outdrive, bilge, blower cuz obviously you didn't and not have a clue either
Watched the recommend video and subscribed. Really enjoyed the content. I don’t doubt you grew up in the east end of TO but you pronounce it Toron-toe in early videos. This is your Inglorious Basterds moment. Kindly explain yourself?
@15:30 (Lachine docks being empty still) FYI, the current Montreal mayoress (Valérie Plante) unilaterally closed the Lachine marina back in 2020 as she deemed boating to be an environmental hazard, and instead seeks to convert the marina into a park… But get this, the Lachine marina is next to… an existing park (!?!), the René-Lévesque park. Looking at the marina/park by aerial view (on Google Earth for example) shows how ridiculous this situation is.
We did it over 5 days. Toronto --> Cobourg Cobourg --> Picton Picton --> Brockville Brockville --> Valleyfield (Quebec) Valleyfield --> Montreal You could shorten that if you pressed right through to Picton or Kingston. You may be able to do the Brockville to Montreal stretch in a single day IF the timing worked out for bridges and locks, but you cant' count on that in the Seaway.
This is from the National Park Service re: Ellis Island- Is Ellis Island in New York or New Jersey? Since a U.S. Supreme Court ruling in 1998, Ellis Island, which is federal property, belongs within the territorial jurisdiction of both New York and New Jersey depending upon where you are. The Main Building, housing the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration, is within the boundary of New York State. Since the island was expanded over many years to its current 27.5 acres, this expanded area is now mostly within the territory of New Jersey. First and foremost, the entire island remains federal property, as it has been since 1808. Thanks for this enjoyable series.
Hey, you passed by our local lighthouse in Kingston, N.Y.! It guards the mouth of the Rondout Creek, which served as the terminus of the Delaware & Hudson Canal in the 1800s. I've met boaters at the marinas doing the Great Loop up the Hudson, across the Erie Canal, through the Great Lakes, and down the Mississippi River. I believe another version of it takes the route you did through Quebec and Ontario. I just happened upon The Journey Part 3. Now I have to watch the other parts. Thanks!
Champlain Locks were free. By total fluke of timing it was the 200th anniversary of the system. Gas was about $1000 from Montreal to Manhattan and slip fees were low as we anchored out one night and Albany Yacht Club isn’t bad. NYC marinas are crazy expensive but compare it to the even crazier priced hotels and it’s not bad.
I grew up on the slopes of Mont St Hilaire. The narrow channel of the train bridge in MxMasterville is actually the exact site of the worst railbridge disaster in Canadian history killing 99 people in the 1800's. As teenagers in the 80's we would cross the bridge both above and underneath walking on the girders. Many have stories of running to the intermittent safety platforms to escape oncoming trains while using the bridge as a shortcut across the river. We also would jump into the canal from the bridge because we were idiots. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beloeil_train_disaster
Love the video. I live in Windsor, and most people dont realize how unique our city and surrounding area is. We are a small city with all the amenities of a big city, thanks to Detroit. We have great wineries, world class fishing etc etc. Most people from the GTA and other places bash our city but they have no idea.
