One of my favorite Thinkpad X series, i'm not buying any X series after the X230. Why ? because they don't have thinklight which is way more useful than backlight.
Hello from Brazil. Thank you for this satisfactory video, I followed the procedures following the video and documentation and everything went well. My BIOS is version 2.74 G2ETB4WW and EC 1.14 G2HT35WW, I did not update to version 2.75. And everything went well. In my case I enabled the battery patch, very simple, just run this command (make patch_enable_keyboard clean) before (make patched.x230.img) after that you will have an image of the EC with the keyboard and battery patch active. Thanks.
I lost my external fan, now i realize my x230 so hot without fan. But i'm too afraid to disasemble my laptop😅, if i buy new external fan, could it help reduce the temperature?
I love that this can be done but as someone who has used both keyboard versions I really do think this is an awful lot of effort to replace a keyboard that is still honestly incredible with the older one which is slightly better. The stock X230 keyboard is still better than any keyboard found on any non-thinkpad laptop, and even some desktop keyboards I have used. I guess "building an almost perfect thinkpad" just isn't as compelling a youtube series though.
You aren't wrong. In my example however, I have X220 keyboards handy and don't have any X230 one, so this can still be useful depending on the use-case.
Greate content! There is even deeper modifications for X220 and X230. 1) eGPU in ExpressCard 1x PCI-E 2.0 2) 2x8GB DDR3 1866mHz unlocked BIOS 3) Replace CPU for Quad Core!!! Only in professional BGA reflow service.
X230 is the last x series that has 2 ram slots so that u can run dual channel and upgrade.... Gpu intensive tasks will thank you. Im about to move on to a single channel x270
Quick question if you happen to know. I have an X220 and an X230. The X220 has a DC BRUSHLESS 5V 0.30A fun. The X230, however, has the AVC rated at 5V 0.45A. I tried a DC BRUSHLESS 5V 035A but I get a "fan error" at boot, although the fan spins normally. I suspect that due to lower amperage it can't reach the required RPM and the PC recognizes it as a "failed fan". I found a Xuirdz rated at 5V 0.5A that I am eager to try out, however, I am a bit afraid that I may damage the motherboard. Do you think that 0.05A higher amperage poses a risk? If I have to order an AVC from China I'll be without a PC for something like 2 weeks - 1 month....:( Nice guide BTW....
Dumb conclusion, that XP would load faster on a cpu that has 1.6Ghz, rather than 2Ghz but one less core. Fingerprint module did nothing wrong, was shaded for no reason.
Hello sir, I am using x230 from past 3 years. Previously I install Windows 10 and also install graphics 4000 driver . But after display problems, I uninstall graphics 4000 display driver after that display gone and only vertical lines appears in display. Bios settings, Lenovo display and safe mode boot menu no any first display comes. What should I do, please suggest 🙏
Love the machine, just did a battery test on mine. I managed to get 1hour 15 minutes on my battery while at full brightness and playing Old School Runescape. The t5600 runs quite hot though even after a thermal repaste. My specs are; t5600 64bit CPU, 3gb DDR2 and a 128gb ssd running PopOS. Of course I librebooted it.
Did you ever do anything with the PCIe slot? I know some folks try a usb 3.0 connection or even additional storage thru small m.2. Some of the usb 3.0 PCIe adapters were getting quite warm I heard tho depending which one you get.
Nice video. I had an x230 tablet that died and ripped the IPS panel from that, removed the digitizer and popped that in my x230 and its much better than the tn panel it came with. I highly recommend this upgrade.
