The Keyboard Dep Function Room is the RU-vid channel for keyboard players who need to quickly learn how to play popular tunes on the function band circuit.
Your average function band will usually play two 45 minutes-long sets, which can average around 30 songs. When that call comes it is often a late hour attempt to find someone to fill-in or cancel the gig. You may therefore be left with little time to learn a long list of songs you have never played before. Whilst you may be able to busk your way through many of them, you are conscientious enough to want to do a good job, that is to say, play the right parts with the right sounds. After all, a musician is only as good as his last gig.
The idea for the Keyboard Dep Function Room is to become the place to quickly find your keyboard parts. Some parts will be easy, and some less so, however, every keyboard player should find this a useful, and eventually a comprehensive, resource of keyboard parts for your convenience.
these are really useful. I wonder if it's possible to get a metronome going as that would be super useful especially when slowing it down to learn etc thanks again
Great performance and tutorial. But I saw a video saying that this song was recorded with a little detuning, so it's hard to play together with the recording using standard tuning. How did you set the timbre? Did you configure a detuning by cents? How many cents?
@@thekeyboarddepfunctionroom6520 is true that has a little detuning. Maybe because it's a little detuning, you might not perceived, but I compared with standard tuning and for me it's a little bit different. After posting here my message, I found another video where the guy says that added 30 cents. I used this configuration on a new piano tone and it worked. I played together with the song and for my ears, my piano prog was consonant with the song
A quick note of thanks and appreciation. Slowing the vid down to .75 helped me get all the nice bits note for note! Loved that you captured all the great voicings of the original.
Great video! I've been struggling with this song, especially the piano solo section, but your video has shown me some great alternatives to playing it. Thanks for posting it!
Thank-you for this. The visuals on the notes being played is unique and very helpful. I'm trying to take the chords from the piano over to the guitar. The notes and the chord sheet are very helpful.
Thanks a lot, that helped me a lot! I've been trying to figure that intro out for years and you did a great job working on the details of the first bars! After listening your playing about 10 times, I think there is another d on top of that bar 2 beat 2 voicing. And in the third measure, the left hand ghosts a g instead of a d. Keep it up and all the best!
Nice to hear the history of Steve Winwood, and great job providing not only the chord sheet but labeling the keys in the video. Agree with others - a great tutorial.
Thanks for sharing. Although not an expert, and a guitarist, I consider this to be one of the most complex Reggae progressions. On a side note, given that it was written by Dennis and it’s from a girls perspective, that makes it even more remarkable.
Thanks man, this was super interesting and helpful. Do you think they actually used the same synth to play all those parts in the original (intro bass, chords, high octave stabs, etc)?
At last ! I've just watched about 3 other keyboard tutorials on this track and none of those sounded quite right. A few of the notes were in the wrong place. I've seen the Stranglers live 5 times - Always brilliant.
