Dennis Weaver was brilliant playing this terrorised, unhinged character. Spielberg’s first movie, what a ride! A true masterpiece!

A really creepy psychological horror film, very much in the style of Alfred Hitchcock films. It's really interesting how Dennis Weaver was pretty much the only actor. I can't think of many other films like this. Yes there were customers and cafe owners etc but the film was really just Weaver and a truck.

Why are American cars so slow with their huge engines, even as a kid this movie seemed nuts when driving at 70 was meant to be dramatic.

Retro on Tape, Thanks for providing this horror-type movie set on the open road! Early Spielberg classic with good performance from Dennis 'McCloud' Weaver who finds himself in a fight to the death with a tanker truck with seemingly supernatural powers!

There is a rip-off with 2 women driving in a mustang car. Almost every second word is "fuck" or "shit". In any case, the original is the far better version!

Not so many people will know this - the footage at the end of the film was used in an episode of The Incredible Hulk a year or two later, edited, of course to show Hulk as the hero...fascinating, no?

What’s interesting is this is a TV film from 1971 and in the same year Dirty Harry came out. Yet this is shot far more superior.

32:14 when the waitress drops the cutlery on the table and snaps him out of his contemplation. Great shot. It’s exactly how it is in real life when you become so focused on something and something else just snaps you out of it.

Duel is a masterclass in suspense and storytelling! Spielberg's ability to create such intense tension with minimal dialogue and simple yet powerful cinematography is truly remarkable. The relentless cat-and-mouse chase between the car and the menacing truck keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. It's a perfect example of how much can be achieved with a strong concept and brilliant execution. This film has rightfully earned its place as a cult classic. 🚗🚚"
