Thank you for watching! The key to calming your nerves while playing artificial harmonics in particular is to make sure your left hand is strong and sure of the notes you are playing, both the solid note and the harmonic note (where your finger touches the surface of the string). Practice the solid note ( the lower note of the artificial harmonic) separately, later add the top note ( keep that finger very strong and straight). Once you are confident of the left hand your bow arm becomes more confident and strong. Harmonics are not supposed to be played softly by the bow, but rather with a full sound. If you watch my example here you can see that I am not playing softly or carefully here. That is often a mistake students make, they are afraid to put more weight, bow speed and energy on the string while playing harmonics. That's why they sound weak and shaky. There may be times when you should play it gently and softly, but piano marking on harmonics is not the same as piano marking on regular notes. Harmonics have to be played much louder. Give it a try and that should help your nerves. All the best, Marta
