Came pre-programmed. If you have an E93 (c2007-2012) 3-series hard top convertible (mine pictured in the video is a 2008 E93 M3, all you need to do is press and hold the lock button on the remote (the BMW Roundel) and the top will automatically close. Likewise, if you press and hold the unlock button on the remote, the top will automatically retract. You have to be within 15-20-feet of the car for this to work.
Great video! Enjoy your new BMW 7 series (model 2016) Bryway66. I wonder what you do for a living that you can afford such a beautiful car? 😉 I drive a BMW 3 series and a Volvo XC70
I arrived a bit late but here it is anyway: lovely car, enjoy it for many years to come. Thanks for sharing the video. It must have been a great experience.
This video was useful and scary at the same time as it made me realise our plan to drive from Varenna to Milan Central Station in 3 hours on a Sat morning in April weather and traffic may be unrealistic! Do you think if we leave Varenna at 10 am we could make it to Milan Central Station in 5 hours without rushing and allowing for weather and traffic? Really appreciate the advice! Thank you. First time driver in Italy.
Still miss our 530i so much... We had to sell it due to the bad economy and has since then had two Skodas, really not bad cars, but nothing beats the feeling of that BMW craftsmanship!
Went there for my 21st Birthday and absolutely loved it. Hope one day I can take delivery of a car there. Have you got a name for the track you used in this video?
It was a simple looping track I cobbled together in GarageBand on my MacBook Air -- had the MacBook with me for the trip so I could edit video and post to my blog throughout the trip. The track is royalty-free and unfortunately has no name. Glad you liked it :-)
Also, BMWs are half the price in Europe as they are in the U.S. Still expensive by many peoples' standards, but it's like buying a high end cadillac here. Not everyone drives one. 7 series are also very difficult to park because of their size, which again, (not price) is another reason why the 7 series is quite rare in the E.U., unlike the U.S.
I'm thinking about visiting there, as I'm a bit tired of the U.S. at the moment. I wanted to see what a realistic drive was like, and since I haven't been back to the EU in a while, I of course miss it. Do heaps of people commute from Como to Milan?
Really not long at all -- It's about 40-50 miles, so I'd say no more than an hour to get there from Como. Beautiful drive until you get on the Autostrada (which looks like any other highway).
It was very exciting. Loved every minute of it. The BMW Welt concierge seemed a little concerned when I affixed cameras to the car to capture driving footage; mostly because the car had just been painted a couple of days before LOL! There were no delays picking up the car. It was shipped here to San Francisco and arrived right when they said it would get here.
I didn't use the 2 for 1 deal that was attached to the European Delivery package, since it only applied to Economy seats. Instead, I used an American Express benefit that gave me 2 for 1 for Business Class seats.
I can't believe you guys came all the way from the states to pick up your car! That's commitment! I think it was about £1500 extra to pick up my BMW from the factory so I didn't do it but we are off to the museum tomorrow unfortunately not to pick up a nice 7 series!
Yes. The plates remained on the car when it was shipped to me in the US. I drove around with them on for a few months, but ultimately replaced them with California plates. Now the German ones are hanging in my garage as a nice reminder of my European adventure.
Thanks for the comments (and compliments on color selection, etc.). You're going to have a VERY good time at the Welt! If I can offer you a bit of advice, I'd say take your time at the Welt -- really soak in the experience. It was difficult for me to do, because all I wanted to do was hop in and drive it away! In hindsight, I'm glad I took my time at the Welt and got lots of video to remember the experience.
Fantastic video! We go in a couple of months, can't wait- The color you chose is so classy, you can see it subtly as it rotates , great taste ! Your video is the best I've seen :)
And, further, I admire the fact that BMW is (and has always been) an independent company. Question for you: Who owns Jaguar these days? I'll give you a clue... it's no longer the Ford Motor Company, although if your Jaguar was built between 1999 and 2008, you're essentially driving a Ford. LOL! And in 2008, Jaguar was bought by Tata Motors of India. And we all know what an amazing automotive history India has given the world.
Good for you. Comparing a sedan to a convertible coupe is ridiculous (your choice of a convertible over the 745). I have a 740Li (2012) and love that car just as much as the M3. BMWs are really great cars, and do turn heads (despite your earlier rant). But that's not why I own the cars. Who cares about heads turning. I care most about the drive, and BMW delivers in spades.
Whats that supposed to mean I hope you dont think bmw is better than Jaguar because I could have bought a bmw 745 and choose a 2 seater Jaguar and no offense that car looks like a everyday car nothing exotic about it my jag looks exotic and is very attractive turns heads now ask your self does you bmw do that and lastly jaguars are more expensive and are respected more Overall I have a 10x better looking car than any bmw ever made... yea thatts right its a jag watch this /watch?v=7eWIrBOc3zE
