I was always told end of the day Bakelite refers to pieces with three or more distinctive colors. Because sometimes the two color ones were done intentionally such as the Green and Yellow which is a pretty common swirled to find. I've seen some pieces with as much as 8 colors in a single piece.
Very educational and easy to follow video. Thank you! If I may suggest, when you are showing pieces of jewelry, maybe come close to the camera so viewers can see? :-)
spokesperson has very limited knowledge of vintage plastics and has discussed lots of falsehoods about Bakelite - most of the table features Catalin plastic jewelry
Fascinating. My younger sister loves hat pins but doesn't watch computer programs like this so will miss out seeing this.---It was unfortunate that the camera spotlights of her various examples wasn't better coordinated because I got a bit cross-eyed when the camera went swinging while trying to capture what she was showing. And wouldn't it have been nice to have posters with ladies wearing those huge hats on display on easels behind her? Also, I was a bit frustrated with her answer about where she bought her pins...I was hoping for something like "thrift stores, antique shops, on-line vendors", etc.
This is an awesome video. Thank you. I have my grandmother's vanity china which includes a hand painted portrait of her at 5yrs old ....painted right on one of the pieces. Done in 1894. Many odds and ends jewelry as well. Though it's priceless to me I'm curious about the value..thanks again for this video
Just discovered your channel. Fantastic info! Thank you. I would add one thing if you’re going to continue on RU-vid and I do hope you do! Please don’t forget your online viewers. It was difficult to see some of the items because they weee so far away from that camera.
@@sashafrodo I started to write up the critique, but I was sidetracked by a bout with Covid-19, and then my father took ill and passed away which pushed a lot of things to the back burner. I will rewatch the video, take a fresh set of notes, and try to get the critique back for your review. I apologize for the delay.
I enjoy the class but would like to have zoom in on items examples speaker is showcasing and microphone in audience to hear questions as well. Thanks for the info.
Im a dealer, you are spot on. and Yes, my library of REFERENCE BOOKS are valuable. however prices have fallen in recent years , so I have to compensate for that.
Thank you for all the information! Loved the presenter! Question: I have a set of Sheffield forever sharp knives with kind of tortoise shell design handles. Would they be Bakelite?
I was told the original PINK glass pre 1915 will have a green glow to it when you shine a black light on it. Same with some old pieces of art glass paperweights and animals. I have several pieces that confirm this. I may have missed it but thoughts on Amberina glass? A portion of it glows under a black light. Is it sought after and what is the value?
Amberina is highly sought after (2023) i just sold 9 pieces of it. Amazon has small keychain Black lights that are helpful wneb looking for Uranium Glass.
