Nice fishing Shrimp is always my go to for cat bait Lon hagler in Loveland is a nice lake Taking my three sons tonite I. The next hour or so and stay til 6am If you don’t mind Can you throw me a hint that a Coloradan would understand which lake this is? Or located? I got some hidden gems that can share with you as well
That is wild. We haven't had anything resembling solid ice all winter and this weekend will be in the 60s. Crazy stuff. That guy was lucky. New subb to the channel, from NJ.
Shoreline fishing in the sounds you want to find spots where it drops off fairly close to shore and you will have to go through some bushes and even go down some steep hills, but fishing it worth it, I grew up fishing there
@Westernoutdoorsmen last year on deer creek reservoir it had 15 inches of ice. This year, the lake hasn't even capped. Strawberry reservoir finally capped, but it has swallowed a few snowmobiles this year. The bays have good ice, but the main body of water is still sketchy. I think spring fishing is coming sooner this year than normal. I did catch my first laker through the ice at Flaming Gorge!
@@baitnbullets That's crazy, for us a lot of it has to do with how full the reservoirs were going into the winter season from last year's runoff. All the extra water makes it harder to freeze. Doesn't help when you have warm temperatures as well obviously. Congrats on the Laker, how far north did you have to go? Was the fishing any good? We've made a trip up there to ice fish 3 years in a row but I don't know if it's going to happen this year considering lack of ice.
@Westernoutdoorsmen we fished the confluence area. There were about 15 inches of ice. I took my Four wheeler out on the ice. I even saw a few side by sides. It wasn't a super fast fishing, but we did ok. My friend landed a big 36 inch laker! I only caught pups. And 2 burbot!
Nice! This is all on the Western half of the state but I am originally from that area. Aurora Reservoir fishes really well and sometimes freezes over if it gets cold enough. The pinery which is pretty close to Parker has a lake also that has some decent fish. Thanks for watching subscribe for more!
@Westernoutdoorsmen +1 on antero. Friend took me out there 3 years ago. Was my first time ice fishing and I caught my PB rainbow trout. It was somewhere around 6.5-7lbs. Can't beat the scenery out there either!
Thanks man! Those alpine Trout act so much different they are always all over the column. Goodluck this year, we'll be out in Utah to fish flaming gorge later in the year. Thanks for watching 🤙
The small ones you caught at the start we call them spotty (signified by spots on side) or paketi (native name) they're a wrasse species and not good eating, typically hang around shallows and piers. Full of bones and not great meat, can be eaten but id suggest nah. Second is as mentioned in another comment a kahawai (Australian salmon) they can be tasty when smoked but other than that we use them as bait for larger species.
Great Information, Thanks! I have never seen these before I was just thrilled to catch something without any experience in the area. The kahawai are a great looking fish and fight hard. Thanks for the comment
@@Westernoutdoorsmen if you are still around the South Island I may be able to put you in touch with my brother, we both fish out of picton and the east coast, may be able to take you out on the boat to a few deeper fishing spots for some game fish
@@VivaLaMykey unfortunately we left about a week ago. I appreciate the offer man I'll keep it in mind for next time- we'll definitely be back down there again!
Thanks Jerry for the comment. I bet hooking one of those live and sending it back out would have great results. If only I have brought heavier gear I would have done that. (Assuming I found out the type of fish before hand of course!!)
Those looked like channel cats...they are good eating. I'm always in awe at how much different the landscape looks in Western fishing videos compared to here in Maryland. The fish looked delicious.
Thanks for the comment! I love our landscapes here but you definitely have the upper hand on warm water fisheries out east! Can't beat fried channel cat so many different ways to serve it.
Really fun video.... so enjoyed watch it. So you keep all your locations (that reservoir) top secret? Guess I understand, although I guess every reservoir gets a fair amount of fishermen anyway... Thanks for sharing the video.
So fun to watch, like your channel... I haven't fished that part of the state before, but it is beautiful. So you don't name the reservoir you were at? Doubt Denver people would drive 6 hours one way, get a hotel room, etc., to fish there - but maybe lots fishermen would? Look forward to your ice fishing videos, don't really ice fish, but fun to watch those too.
Thanks for watching. Generally no, I do not name the body of water but so far every fishery on my channel is publicly accessible. This is Ridgeway Reservoir and I would recommend the trip out!
@@Westernoutdoorsmen Yes! I knew a guy in college who his mother's parents moved to Southwest Detroit from Colorado. They was so far what they told him was Spanish Catholics of Jewish, Gypsy, Muslim ancestry that moved over during Pike's Peak Gold Rush & stayed & married into the population. & She didn't do any better marrying a Catholic Italian with Jew, Gypsy, Muslim ancestry from da Eastside of Detroit 😂. They call yall Hispanos since Colorado is apart of Nuevo Mexico lol. I bet yall speak Spanish. No wonder with da tacos I was like Seminoles don't make tacos 😂...... Oh & by the way Selena's mother's mother's family is originally white passing Black Hispano Coloradans 🇪🇸🇲🇽. Take Care 👋 ✌️
Never heard of the rainbow warrior! I'll have the check that out! I was wanting to re tie a new rig on the fly rod but I was almost out of leader! Thanks for watching!
At this particular lake we use alot of lures such as Kastmasters, blue foxes, and Tasmanian Devils. The big trout in this video was caught on powerbait. We like to have a set line out while we cast lures!
