My parents and I were there back in June 1977 and stayed overnight at the lone picnic area. We saw a breathtaking sunset and during the night we heard scratching noise coming from the front of our camping van. It was creepy. The following morning, we went for our walk and checking out the battlefield. It is a quite interesting place.
I enjoyed your video of Bear Paw Battlefield. I visited the site in 2004. Seems we travel the same paths as I also viewed your Big Hole Battlefield field video. I appreciate your style of presenting the sites with beautiful music, maps and the numbered stop photos/video. THANKS
I stopped there in 1973, transporting my Appaloosas home to southern Oregon after riding to White Hall, Montana, to water them and let them graze for awhile, when Mr. Forest Service man told me I wasn't allowed to let my horses graze on grass that Chief Joseph's Appy's did. Imagine that, the Government that killed the Nez Perce, didn't want my horses eat or drink the water!
James Saban is my great-grandfather. I'm glad you enjoyed the hike up to the tower as the view is epic. The Bighorn Mountains have some hidden gems for hiking and camping. Interesting fact, my grandfather is still alive at 94 and has written several books about the area and growing up in the Bighorn Mountains. He would take me hiking almost weekly as a kid and tell stories about this area for hours.
I believe that when I was a young kid (I'm 68 now) my grandmother and I found this place by just out driving in the desert one day. I was born in Winslow
I've been there looooonnnnngggg time ago. I grew up in that country . Yes what a good life farmed trapped hunted work on drilling rigs . My Great grama had a café in Marmarth Grandpa mom's dad homestead in 08 south of Rhame
I just LOVE your clip! I find it a clever idea to document everything visually in a detailed way and have the mutliple interpretive signs do the narrating with the same background music running the length of the video, thus forming a kind of entity. This experience made me feel like I had actually just visited the place myself, really! Gave me goosebumps!
There was a really bad snow storm last February 2024 that hit Mount Ord while I was driving through from AZ To NM. I grew up in ND driving on iced over roads with large snow drifts most of my life but that drive in the mountains with zero visibility, heavy snowfall, at 5am was the most sketchy stretch of road I have ever driven on. It took us almost 4hrs to crawl over that mountain because we could only drive 5-10 mph. Just thought I would share lol
Opening action of the plains Indian wars in 1866. A great place to visit, no crowds, plenty of time to review the exhibits, walk the field, and speak with the ranger. I highly recommend a visit.
I am a young Korean living in Seoul, Korea. Although I was exhausted from my busy daily life, I ended the day watching a very relaxing and comfortable video. Thank you for the good video.
