Watching you react to this was absolute GOLD!!!! Listen, I saw this in the damn theatre when it came out. I was 19, fully in my goth diva stripper phase and gaslit myself HEAVILY into thinking that "if I think of this as its own entity and not a supposed adaptation of my beloved vampire chronicles media it's actually not that bad." But the more I thought about it, the angrier I got lol. The soundtrack was fire, though...I danced to many of those songs in my stripper days :) And Aaliyah was the BEST part of the whole thing. SHE DESERVED TO REALLY BE AKASHA FOR REAL!!!

Honestly the actors blow me away with their skill and I hope they make all of the vampire chronicles books as there's 13 I couldn't think of anyone better to play the main characters and look forward to seeing the show the vampire Lestat in later times The one thing that baffles me though is now Sam reid and Jacob Anderson put on the voices/ accents
I can't see anyone else playing the role of Lestat. Sam fits it to perfection and then he went and grew out that hair.🥵 Bless you my child, the Lord's work manifested.

I was shown this movie a few months ago by a friend who had been trying to get me to watch it for a long time. After she showed me the movie, I had to tell her that I didn't really care for it and it's not a favorite and that I believe Aaliyah should've had more scenes in the movie, especially since it is called The Queen of the Damned. I also told her that while it's not the best movie, it does have a good soundtrack. She thankfully agreed with me on the soundtrack part and I do listen to the songs from movie and even dance to them a bit when I can. I would play that soundtrack for everyone to hear and enjoy on Halloween if I could I hope that the show in the future at some point will play the song System as a nod to Aaliyah since that's the song she was dancing to in the movie or if not that than something else.

Come on its not so bad, other than Lestat being brunette, Armand being a blonde, Marius turning Lestat, Lestat turning Jesse, Maharet being just one twin and there are no signs of Louis, Nicky and Gabrielle, this is pretty accurate 😂

I watched this movie for the first time recently: The music? Nice :D Akasha? Yes :D Some costume decisions? Great. Anything else? Aaaaaaah I just CAN'T get over the drastic changes from the books, there were too many! Wonder what it would be like to go back in time and see the movie before I knew the show and books. my anne rice journey started with this movie as a pre=teen - i think i loved the numetal bisexual vibes more than i realised how much it lacked a plot. i got more into vampire media as a teenager and watched the interview with the vampire movie, and now the series exists and i have read interview with the vampire, lestat and queen of the damned, so it's interesting to see how the series has been interpreted by different studios

42:35 - The movie took itself completely seriously. The early-early 2000s took it completely seriously. You did not take it seriously. As most book!fans do not take it seriously. And that's okay, either way. Lmfao I really don't think it's as bad as a movie as you make it seem....you just really kept expecting those book plots to kick off.😅😅 Having watched it myself before having read the books, I remember being completely hooked in, watching everything as it was unfolding and just eating it right up; insatiable enough for more that I would go on to watch the Interview movie and read the books afterward too. Lol It's titled Queen of the Damned, but really it was The Vampire Lestat / The Queen of the Damned. (And there was no way they were ever going to fit all of that in a single movie, really. Unfortunately. 😿 Lol) The plot is Lestat. (Not Akasha) His eternal struggle between the thrill of being a vampire and his love for being among humans and desiring to walk openly in the human world &/or to have companionship. You can actually see his conflict the whole time in the movie from the first moment when he wakes up to the massacre in the sunlight too. But she would obviously have zero problems ripping his throat out just like she did Enkil's if he let on too soon. He had to wait for his moment. And the big-bads not really appearing much on screen until the very end wasn't a totally uncommon phenomenon at the time, I don't think. But her eventually reappearance was set up from the very beginning, since we knew that she could move, and we knew that she took a shine to Lestat and his music and that he had a big thing for powerful vamp blood(both when Marius first turned him in the movie and when he drank her blood that very first time). But, yyeeaahhhh, the books . . it is definitely most-certainly NOT the books. That is for sure. Lol
39:21 - Okay, but Marius sneaking into David's house at the very end like that, feels very reminiscent of Lestat driving off with Daniel in the backseat of his convertible in the Interview movie. And I kinda love it. Also, the CHEMISTRY when Marius and David stared at each other across the crowd at Lestat's concert. And the way Lestat got all kindsa hella giddy when Marius jumped on stage to fight for him after having previously abandoned him. I lived for these tiny little subtexts, back then; before I'd even read the books. Lmfao If I remember it right, Marius only had long hair when he was turned in the books because he was held captive for a while first and so it grew out, but super short hair was actually not completely uncommon for Roman men around that time way back in BCE or early-early CE. Ssoo.... I can kinda see why the film would go that direction with it. (Plus, I hadn't read the books yet, so .. I had no reason to care. And giving him long hair might've made him resemble LotR elves or something, too; which isn't super vampire-y? 😅🤭🤭🤣) ((Also, I'm pretty sure [Lestat's actor ]Stuart Townsend's hair is actually a really dark blond. But, yeah, unfortunately..definitely no "golden" blond.)) (Honestly, they probably went with dark rather than light hair because things were just generally very color coded at that point in time-so light hair = good/elves/angels/etcetera; while dark hair = bad/vampires/demons/etcetera. I'm glad we've grown beyond these stereotypes more nowadays. Lol)

Tbf, it probably would've gotten hella cluttered.
The concert is a good ways into the movie because the first half is essentially a very condensed re-imagining of 'The Vampire Lestat' to set the story up, where the second half is more 'Queen of the Damned' stuff. Kind of. And that really adds to the many reasons the film sucks though, as it makes the pacing a real slog. Plus, they took so little from the two books, threw them at a script, and it was like mad-libs or something. (Honestly, they should have just stuck with ONE book, but I guess not) I still remember seeing this in the theater when it came out when I was about 29 years old. As a huge fan of the books, I seriously came out not exactly knowing what I just watched. It was wild! Plus, don't even start me on the weird straight-washing of Lestat and the awkward romance story he has with Jessie (who pretty much takes Louis's role in things? WHYYYYY). Ick. (I did like Paul McGann as David, though -- but then I've always had a softspot for David and, of course, Paul McGann plays one of my fave Doctors in 'Doctor Who', so...).
As an "elder millennial", and dedicated teen mall goth/VC fan, I saw this in theaters opening weekend. And other than the new metal soundtrack (which I did love at the time), I spent the whole film :: surprised Pikachu face:: at the screen. The heteronormativity. The accent. The brown hair! The software engineer dad looking Marius. There are few movies that are such a pure time capsule.
Look, I unapologetically and unironically love this movie. But this movie was my introduction into the Vampire Chronicles universe-this movie was *THE* _THING_ that started it all, for me. I went from this movie, to the Interview movie, then finally to the books. I regret nothing. So many parts of who I am and what I love in this world stemmed specifically from me undertaking that exact trajectory/journey. I have so many good things/fond memories/endless discussions throughout the last two decades with my bestie, various family members, and eventually even with my longtime life-partner all wrapped up around this movie....and so on. It may not be the movie for everyone, and it may definitely have been sorely slacking in certain respects as an adaptation of the original source material especially, but I will recognize zero shade. This movie is an underappreciated gem. But it's also a little bit like 'The Emperor's New Clothes' I guess. Lol 🤣🤣
I always wondered...after Lestat broke the chain, how did Marius fix it in such a way it couldn't be broken again, and why just walk off, assuming the chains were now unbreakable...after already having to somehow fix one cus it BROKE!
