Good lesson today Andy. It's good to find these voicings all over, in case somebody calls a way strange key, and suddenly you must play completely different fingerings an for otherwise familiar melody.

Very nice, Andy. I’ve been following your videos and like the way you’ve broken down these ideas into useful building blocks. When you get to the last example, where you have melody, licks and fills, do you analyze the specific melody to identify key elements that make it unique and focus on keeping those to help keep it recognizable?
@mandohat
@mandohat 14 дней назад
@@ryanmooney826 well, probably just using intuition, and not a formal process, but sure. Mostly what I'm teaching right now is to pick a chord to improvise on. I'm not teaching how to make that sound like a variation of the melody, but just, this chord is where I'm gonna play my g lick, or c lick, etc. also, I'm teaching how to flow through the notes so you don't get hung up, and can create a lick of any length.

Interesting. I’m an old guy that started learning to play guitar after retirement. I played drums in my younger years so I never learned to read music. (LOL) I know some music theory. But not much. I am a visual learner so RU-vid has been a real boon for me. Tab doesn’t help me much. I use it a little, sometimes, to clarify finger placement. Now. I don’t like to reference other RU-vid Channels on someone’s channel, but I think this may be ok. It’s, at least, interesting. So please forgive me. There is a channel called “Fennah Rob”. The guy is actually Rob Fennah. He is a British professional musician that teaches some guitar tunes on RU-vid for free. He uses his own visual form of “tab” that he refers to as idiot proof. It’s an interesting concept and has helped me. Thanks for this video, by the way. It also helped me.

Brilliant exposition of this method! Obviously years in the making. I would add just a couple of observations. Visual & Auditory learners build on their strengths by spending time working on their weak side. Takes a skilled teacher to guide them through the scary side. Also, Standard Notation is way better than TABS as it actually conveys a visual picture of pitch direction which begins to train the ear. Again, it takes a skilled teacher to not overwhelm the student. It can be approached in a way that the student eases into competency if we model the way babies learn to speak. Great job! I hope to see more from you soon,
