People love to dump on Joe's Newcastle spell, but with his points average (which was over one point per game, even with too many draws) he would have gotten Newcastle to 14th or 15th and safety. He had them as high as 12th (only losing two of his first twelve games and then also dealing with the dysfunctional transfer policy at the club) and they were 13th the day he was taken ill. Hughton and Shearer only got one win between them in the last 13 games, yet somehow the relegation was all Kinnear's fault on the footballing side. Ashley and Wise should never have undermined Kevin Keegan in the first place. Kinnear did a great job at Wimbledon and Luton; not so much with Forest. It's a shame that his health troubles and the general (and understandable) hatred of Mike Ashley has heavily clouded what was actually a decent spell at Newcastle and soured Joe's reputation at what proved to be the end of Joe's managerial career. Though going back to be the director of football with that regime in 2013-14 wasn't the best idea. RIP Joe.
He was a very good manager and was indeed a special one because what he achieved in Porto and Inter which other managers can't do with top teams in Europe. He was sometimes very cruel and angry which something I don't like from him. The reason his Porto, Chelsea (first term), and Inter had more success because back then players did respected managers and back then no players are bigger than his manager and the club, but today everything changed and that's something he is struggling in modern football to adapt to the changes.
