I think most people confused with realism and CG artwork, when a 3D / FX artist show their work, people expect it to be unoticeable but that is not the point, depends on the situation if we want to integrated into live action footage based on the project demand, then of course realism from the assets, texturing, lightning, compositing need to be as close as possible like in real life. But when we create full CG scene, it doesn't need to be realistic but can be describe as 'cool artwork' / animation. Fact : realism in CG is expensive and hard to achieve.
