Richard Tigchelaar I have always been fascinated with how the Jewish people survived and why, maintaining their identity while utilizing a transcendent creativity to endure and give to the world
The "idea" that the Shemita sabbatical year isn't of Torah origin anymore but of Rabbinic origin is a bold Rabbinic lie, notwithstanding what Orthodox Jews say to support this falsehood. The Torah doesn't set a "loophole" through which Jews in Israel may circumvent the Shemitah commandments or abrogate them.
Actually, the pogrom & the antisemitc policies generally were all part of a larger PROGRAM by the imperial gov't to solve what they saw as the nationalism problem. The Russian gov't was concerned about rise of nationalism so it was thought that a policy or Russification would solve this. That is, Non-russian ethnic identities would suppressed & made more Russian. Even other Orthodox churches were to be forced to give up their separate identities. That is what happened.
I was surprised to find this on RU-vid. I don't understand why more people are not interested about this matter. I, as an African-American, who grew up among Jewish people, have always been interested. Thanks to the internet I can now see and hear what it is all about. Thank you Rabbi Wein. Blessings on your house.
talk about a tough, resilient people; everything that history has thrown against them; yet they've survived. incredible. talk about how many times Jerusalem had changed hands; how many times they were exiled to foreign lands...how many times their temple was destroyed... no wonder they fight tooth and nail to try to keep Israel to themselves. Whew!
