Brian completed his Ba(Hons) degree in Economics in 1991 and the following year gained an MSc in Computer Based Information Systems. He went on to spend several years researching the development and application of expert systems before setting up his own information technology company providing consultancy to a wide range of financial services companies.
Brian has been enthusiastic about the weather since the long hot summer of 1976, enjoying both hot and sunny as well as cold and snowy conditions! He is frequently quoted in national newspapers and has appeared on BBC radio.
Has anyone noticed that on the MET Office weather 90% of the comments are bots and it's completely purile.....I mean it's like AI meets MK Ultra mind contol breakdown level of purile.....worth reading for a chuckle....😅 we believe you!
Its all wrong. Some old folk depend on that money,to stay warm.I thought a labour govt was all in favour for the working man.Taking away vital support is something you would expect of the Conservatives, not a Labour Government.
Good Spring on the whole and fundamentally dry six weeks to second half of Summer seems to have led to some premature leaf fall, distinctly autumnal mornings and in spite of recent rains seems to be translating into even earlier frosty conditions than 2023. The acorns seem to be dropping quickly as well this year.
Tree health in general is in a dreadful state in many areas , it seems more than just weather , like more vigorous fungi or other bacterial diseases. Or who knows , maybe nano plastics are playing a role .
preview image needs ammending btw with the wrong date, thanks for an early outlook. hope it does improve next week, the storms sunday morning were very easy to spot 12 and 6 hours prior to the event. hope that was the end of those, was going to go to watch the cricket at lords but not when its feels like 12c at best mid week into thur almost wintry start not even autumn start to the morning. have a great week : )
I’d say the summer of 1976 was the best ever, a bit like living in southern France rather than southern England. And the summer of 2024 was the worst one I’ve ever known. The few short couple of days of heat events just didn’t make up for such a late spring and early autumn that we’ve had. Brian’s way of presenting the weather forecast is great. Concentrating on the weather rather than going on about how accurate he was about last week’s etc. I look forward to each video.
I suspect that due to the dry second half to summer we may have an early Autumn in 2024. It will be interesting how first dates of ground frost pan out.
So many stupid comments about climate change on social media at the moment . Folk not thinking its real because of weather conditions in the UK etc etc . Could you make a video explaining how climate change effects the earth for all those still too lazy to do some research or even read the news ? .. Drives me mad!
Computer models calculate conditions at different levels in the atmosphere. This provides a more consistent and standardised way than using altitudes. It also makes it easier to see variations at given levels, e.g., ridge/trough patterns at the 500 hPa level. In terms of the computation itself, pressure levels have traditionally been used for data reporting, so it simplifies the processing needed.
this time last week in the south of England was perfect even the weekend overcast was pleasent except for some localised torrential rain and thunderstorms on Sunday. I was eating sunday lunch inside a pub and knew rain was not gong to let me eat outside looking at corfe castle and i was right, whilst eating pudding everyone scurried indoors. Hope you had a lovely time away, funny we were both on holiday at the same time 😁
Love your forecasts Brian - to the extent that my climbing trips are planned around them. But where is next weeks? I’m off to the Lake District and don’t have the usual confidence in the weather pattern!
Here in Chichester on south coast it feels like a pretty decent summer. Last 6 weeks or so have been good, mainly warm and quite humid at times, enough showery rain to stop ground getting too dry although I am watering garden atm!
