I discovered Bach as a kid, but Scarlatti too much later. Zacharias' lovely Scarlatti recordings opened my eyes. Zacharias earned my deep admiration before I found this documentary. I'd love to see this with English subtitles.
What a sublime and friendly composition, completely original. Sounds as if it wrote itself, but it most assuredly did not. It flows like oil, as Mozart said. The melodies embrace each other, the dialogue between voices is absolutely human. Mozart just gets better, and has been my #1 companion for over 5 decades now. He is always new, always modern, never stale. Cannot imagine life without him.
I watch many young pianist playing this waltz.I dont see them present the genuine essense of waltz.leoskaja is faithful to chopins intention in this piece
Zacharias is the one who has always referred to Scarlatti as "his" greatest composer and not just, like so many others, just popping him out for a few encores. For that alone I have the greatest respect. But it seems even more important to me that Zacharias shows his, in the best sense, childlike enthusiasm for this great composer in an exemplary manner. Overall a wonderful documentary that I've watched many times without getting tired of it.
This woman is wonderful; her playing is a joy. She is reminiscent of Ingrid Haebler and yet she definitely has her own perspective on these wonderful works. I'm definitely going to buy the new complete sonatas by her.
This woman always separates her musical intelligence from her ego. When she plays a piece that EVERYONE has played she broadens her base of critics, but she is unique, consistent, almost predictable and very satisfying.
wonderful and elegant, a joy to hear such playing. A big compliment also to the audience! They are really listening, concentrating and appreciating the concert. Unfortunately his is not too often the case.
