About Bekesha. In Poland we don't consider this a coat, because that's is made of shipskin. This kind of clothing we call kożuch. Kożuch that's a common winter attilie in Slavic countries, nowadays kinda rare, but just a few decades ago it was relativly common, because winter were harsher back then. You can easily spot a lot of them in Polish movies made during time of the People's Republic of Poland, because they were locally made, they were very warm. Of course they were in various lenghts, shorter and longer like ankle lenghts. It was pretty much a basic Slavic winter garment in the ages past, peasants also had homemade variants. Even this military bekesha you shown in the video is in its cut pretty close to a civilian variant.
nice to see how high waist jeans are meant to be worn visually, it has been hard to find material like this and with my skinny frame I can nor get my 511s fitting well. thank you again :) keep up the good content, always looking forward to seeing more of your presentations!
I reserve "greatcoat" for military coats. Our surplus store has some Canadian ones that looked to be WWI with their brown wool. I had so many overcoats so I didn't buy one but now I regret it. I do have a wool coat from an Army Chaplain with his name inside. Thank you Capt. Padre Isaac 1961. PS. I picked up British No.2 wool dress pants and love them but need them tailored down.
That's some great greatcoats. Your overall attire in general is inspiring. Not a lot of chaps dress like this these days. Where do you even get high pants like that? And the shirt, as well, is very handsome. Cheers
Great coats are catching on. Ten years ago, you could go into a Salvation Army and by pretty much your choice in great coats. They are now thinned out quite a bit.
Your style rocks! I am also dressing like back then when all people were stylish and men were gentlemen!! Our society misses that and proper role models!! Keep up the great work!!
Up till around the late '90's good quality full length wool coats were still being made. Nowadays such coats, if you can actually find them, sell for obscene amounts of money. Todays coats barely cover your ass, they're for show only, that's absurd.
I have the bulgarian one too bought it for 50€ a few months ago without any imsignias exept the stars on the buttons still the original stamp on the inside from 1981 for 71r wich is the price it cost originaly i forgot what currency „r“ was something soviet thats for sure and the red piping is extremly stylish but it‘s very itchy so i use the kriegsmarine great coat a little more expensive very long but black and mine had a few eagle stamps and swastikas on it thst i had removed or just covered for the sake of collector value 😅
Just a small correction: while wool is a natural material, its environmental friendliness is definitely affected by the high tax to the environment during the refining process. Solution: buy vintage. Two birds with one stone; vintage wool is more likely to have been sourced within a reasonably short distance from where it was refined and tailored, reducing carbon emissions; the regular use of the vintage garment over time will have offset the taxing refinement process whilst reducing the demand for modern wool which has a litany of other issues you don’t need to consider when buying vintage. Buy vintage. Also vintage tailoring is overwhelmingly superior to modern clothing.
Great video clip, Giacomo, as are the coats ! I like your style in wearing army stuff - shirt, braces etc and the cloth cap - not military but very stylish. well done that lad !
Greatcoats were all the rage in my student days in the early 1970s. Army surplus shops did a great line in Army, Navy and Air Force ones. I bought an RAF one from a shop in High Street Swansea for £4. Best four quid I ever spent. Even the Welsh rain didn't soak through it. A few years later I sold it to a mate who'd always fancied it and swapped my allegiance to an ex Royal Canadian Air Force coat from Millets in Swansea. Far superior quality material and styling. It was made the same year that I was - 1952. I've loved it ever since but these days there's a little more of me than there was and I can no longer fit into it wearing thick clothing underneath, but what a beautiful coat ! Quilted warm lining inside to the knee and silky lining in the sleeves. I think I gave about £9 for it !
Could you review (online) sources for surplus you've found? I used to see the big Bekesha on Sovietpower back in the day but i never could get myself to pay that much
