"I don't know why my favorite style of skating is the scariest for me" I feel that, brother. For me, I think there's something so special about looking back at a thing that made you so afraid and you did it anyways. That is a sure confidence booster. We don't often have things in life that we can find that we can do to constantly better ourselves, and when we find scary things and we don't run from them but rather shred through them, holy shit. Love your style and your steez my brother.
I'm 47 and post videos of me looking like a 4 yr old dropping in on a 4ft quarter 😂 if you are ever in NW Illinois DeKalb area I'll be ready to skate with you 🫡💪🤘
Here's a funny breaking the board story.Robby and I have together. In the 4th of july parade broke my deck 10 minutes before the parade we had to rush back to the his store to build another one.We did it and the parade was a complete success. I'm glad. To see that you're not letting opposition stand in your way.Keep up with the skating progress.Love to see it brother
Nice job! That ollie was a non issue, for sure, haha! I love that in skating, when you build something up in your head and then actually commit to it. It's like, "Oh, that was nothing! Why was I so worried about that!" I think Dan Corrigan said it best when he said skating is most dangerous when you're scared of what you are doing. Most of the time, if you just put your feet on the board, you'll be fine, as long as you aren't skating way outside of you abilities. Keep it up homie. Can't wait to see the clip of you hitting that gap!!!
@@shawnhagerich2559 hey I just watched that video! I think he's right too. Going at something with confidence usually works out way better than being timid
Never ride a deck until it's roached, if you have the resources. That way you always have a spare or two on standby in the trunk of your car. Not a lot of things are more disappointing than having a funky landing 15 minutes into a sesh and no spares with you.
Fear consumes me when I get near the coping 😂😂😂 I feel like such a wuss but at age 50 getting hurt is just plain out way different...POSITIVE VIBES HOMIE
@@WhatisReal11 that was actually my intent, to drop into rock. But I still find myself surprised when I lock in and kind of forget what to do I guess 😂
Nice one Dan. They are hard to learn. The best three tips I got for these is 1 - move both your feet as far back on the board as you dare. This all helps you to get your back truck over the coping, lift your front foot towards your chest and keep your weight over your back foot. 2 - grab your nose to help you stay compact. 3 - if you are compact, you will have the leeway to pop out (versus getting stuck up there with straight legs!🫣) They are scary though. Good luck dude!
@@GnarlyCheese i'm gonna try that grab the nose thing today if it's not too hot to go out later. i've been meaning to learn & practice blunt slides & stalls lately but forget every time i go out. i think if i can grab the nose to make it easier, i'll actually remember to try them next time because i think part of why i keep putting them off is my mind subconsciously equates them to being a rather "hard" trick when they're probably easier than i realize.
Bend your knees as much as you can as you approach the coping, turn your arms and shoulders to look back down the ramp and simultaneously poke your front leg out over the deck. Then pull your front leg back towards your chest and unwind your lower body as you roll back down. Like a crossed up king fu kick over the deck. Keep your ass and hips in the transition. If you can get the front leg poke and the upper body twist in one motion, you will nail it!
Ankle snap got it. I totally agree and I just realised this this week after less than a year back skating. So it makes a lot of sense of how those rocket Ollie just keep happening to me. Thanks .
I do the same thing. I don’t get my body over the ledge and I reach out with my legs, at least on FS 50-50s. You say you’re just learning them but the 50-50s are looking good man. 👊👍
Excellent tutorial. I've been skating 25 years or so, on and off, and it took me ages before I realised this. I've heard it explained that you should aim to be retracting your back foot, i.e. 'jumping' off it, BEFORE the tail hits the ground. Main thing is not to try to push the tail into the ground, but rather snap the tail and pull that back foot up as far and fast as you can. The front foot will tend to do its thing, but the advice to slide it up can be misleading too because if you do it too soon it will prevent the tail from snapping fully. For me the sliding/boning action of the front foot happens more or less automatically while I'm retracting my back foot, so experiment with adding the slightest delay to the front foot action if you really want to get your ollies high and snappy.
Hi, new here but just to let you know the right audio channel isn't working since your new mic video 2 before this one. Your channel does seem very cool though I'll be sure to keep watching.
It will only bonk if the coping sticks out a bit. Go down to the flat, take your skateboard and swing roll it up the ramp (not with you on it, but if you fell and the board shot away from you) and see if it hits the coping and makes it pop. Then, you know the coping will bonk, cause that's what it does. If it just flies out as if it was a straight angle without round coping, then it won't bonk. The pipe coping needs to stick out about a quarter of an inch to provide bonk.
I see you’re really good at pumping the banks to get speed for it, but when you go up the launch ramp you do the opposite and it eats your speed Try going slower at it and pump as much speed as you can from the launch ramp, Your ollies looked nice you did it perfect on some of those! That’s just how I bonk them at least hope it makes sense I feel like I sometimes give it a teeny nudge if the coping sticks out a lot, kinda similar to the hop/scoot you gotta do when going off a curb with no speed
I hadn't really considered what I was doing on the quarter but you're right, I don't seem to pump the quarter. I do with other tricks but it's like I forget on flyouts 😅
You can get a better bonk kicking your front leg out earlier. Your head/back shoulder should be over the back truck when you're bonking. This helped me with flyouts and disasters.
do you know the bonk on curbs? you ride at them with speed and lift the front wheels, but instead of popping with the tail, you simply hop and lift your back foot so the tail is weightless and your back wheels bonk off the curb and come on top. I assume that it's the same on coping, and you simply need more speed.
A bonk is a tricky one explain. For me, it is like a slightly delayed ollie where you let the back wheels clip the coping instead of popping. Your legs should still make the ollie motion and the bonk helps to get the tail up. I feel like I wait for the back wheels to bonk before I level off with the front foot. You might say it is a lazy ollie. Possibly, the opposite is a scoop, where front foot levels the board before you pop. Your ollies looked really tasty though, so keep cracking that tail! Always feels a sounds more proper!
