Strides were a regular for me. My coach would prescribe them for the days before my workouts to get the legs primed up and then before the workouts. I can also say that my coach warned me about just cranking the strides out and potentially getting injured. I always started slower built into a pace, held it for 5-8 seconds and then eased back again. I will say that after using Garmin and Stryd for years, I definitely prefer using effort as my guide during runs and WOs vs pace, HR or even power. With our weather during the summer months (at least 5 months of the year with 90+F temps), nothing accounts good enough for the high heat except effort. From what I have heard/read, its not a prototype shoe or like the prototype shoe, it is just a marketing gimmick to make runners think they got a shoe close to one of the prototypes, of which there were hundreds. The prototype on the box is merely a marketing scheme to help with sales. Its a good colorway though. I was hoping for a RW&B one instead of the orange air pods.

Hi Tim, I'm also working with a similar Stryd aerobic workouts plan, I just came back from an injury and it seems challenging, with some concerns of getting injured again. Over doing this is most runners sickness.. By the way how many cats do you have? I have only 2 🙂

Having run marathons in all 3 versions of the Alphafly, the 3rd version is amazing. I plan to wear the same pair I ran my last marathon in May at Chicago, and maybe Boston as well....cutoff gods willing (8:36 buffer). I still waver on the AlphaFly V1 for 5k/10k, and the AlphaFly V2 is my favourite long run with MP injections shoe. But I'll never race in the V2 again. But at the Half/Full the AF V3 is a magical shoe for me.

Strides are hugely important. Allows for working on form, without accumulating fatigue. Getting the body used to running at high intensity with very little risk. Strides can also be extremely flexible, where you even extend them out to 45-60sec. Last marathon block, I had 2 Recovery runs, and 2 Easy w/strides each week. The strides can also serve as a primer for a workout the following day. Less experienced runners can progress far on simply easy running and strides. I really think you will like training with power. HR training still has a place in the below LT1 zone, but for workouts, high intensity running and racing, power is the best option. And don't make the mistake of thinking easy is >80% CP. With an accurate CP, easy is more 70-75%. Running easy shouldn't accumulate fatigue, and spending too much time at or near 80% CP will catch up to you.

Stryd has a facebook group where tons of other Garmin users would have probably experienced your issues. You can also submit a support ticket. I'm assuming you have the Stryd workout app installed on the Garmin, and then are selecting the workout from the Stryd workout, and not the Garmin prompt. I've previously had issues where the power data wouldn't transfer over if I used the Garmin sync'd workout instead of the Stryd.

They've helped me with some challenging issues. Good luck!

Yes, Stryd pods work fine in the rain, although they do often register anomalous data spikes if you slam into a puddle and send water into their air-ports. Stryd can be handy when you're trying to maintain constant effort over a hilly course, although after using it for several years now, I most use it for post-run analysis rather than real-time pace control. Good to see you running again!

Stryd Z1 is 65-80% of CP. Both high and low of this range is too extreme. I tend to stay in 70-75% for Z1 power, but ultimately use HR for easy efforts. But until you are able to get in the right runs to set an accurate CP, the numbers don't mean anything. I haven't looked at the Stryd plans in years, but I'm assuming they have a 3/12min testing protocol to set your CP. While I love running with power, I prefer to run recovery/easy runs by HR, and use power for intervals, race specific workouts and obviously racing. What you really need to do is start using your Stryd for treadmill data, and not the treadmill screen which is always wrong. Stryd also has a setting for environment, so when running outside on a stupid hot/humid day, it takes the temperature and humidity and adjusts your raw power number in realtime to an equivalent number. I haven't used it for awhile, but I recall a run last summer where my power number was adjusted 20watts due to how suffering the weather was. Where I truly started to love my Stryd was when I switched to an apple watch, as the integration with apple allows for audible alerts directly to your headphones, so you can stay in your power range without looking at the watch. Do intervals, where you get an audible alert telling you what the power for the next lap is.

I like to run with the power screen on, keeps my pace and effort consistent with flats and inclines no matter what the training effort is. Stryd training is amazing and really helped me this last couple of years. The race estimate has been pretty spot on and on the day does a great job if you have uploaded the course, pretty much like pace pro on garmin. I've also found I've been injured far less if at all when on plan. Good luck with it buddy 👍

Echoing @timrenhold3698 comments. You will need a CP test to keep your PDC somewhat accurate. Might be a while before you can go hard enough for that. CIM would be a good course to use the Stryd on. It's downhill but VERY hilly. Rollers basically the whole way. Lots of runners complained about how bad their quads were wrecked at the end. Plus lots of runners along the course stretching during the race. LOL Nobody accurately described how many hills there were on that course. Of course, I'll forever love it because that is where my 26.2 marathon PR is from.
@timtrenholm3698
@timtrenholm3698 8 дней назад
You have plenty of time to feed data into Stryd to come up with a race plan for Chicago, they even have the course file already uploaded into the Race Calculator. For now, just run, let the data build up. Once you are sure you are safe to really push yourself, the 3min/12min CP test protocol is probably the easiest to get a good initial CP. Or just run a max effort 5k, which is even easier, but maybe a tad riskier than the 3min/12min max efforts. But if you aren't ready to push that hard, don't worry about it. Just run, build that aerobic base again, build the leg muscle/tendon/ligament strength again. Don't chase trying to refresh the PDC (Power Duration Curve) till you are truly healthy and ready. Once you have a decently accurate CP, you'll have a good benchmark to go into the marathon, approximately 88-89% of your CP given your previous marathon experience. Maybe higher, I generally end up in the 91-92% range, but I'm really bad at pushing myself on CP tests, so as a result we feel my CP is always underestimated.

The way you mentioned adaptive training truly resonates my relatively new (4 years) marathon journey. As much as I love to run a BQ, it seems a bit far fetched at this juncture in my life. The higher risk of injuries has become too real to me at 50+. Making constant adjustments to training load helps avoid beating up my body. I am taking it slow training for the Toronto Waterfront Marathon in October. I hope you too are enjoying your runs leading up to Chicago.
