We are Mike & Taylor: a couple in their thirties who sold everything, quit the city life in Seattle, and with little to no prior sailing experience, moved onto a 2004 Caliber 40 to sail around the world with our two dogs, Penny and Lucy. Join us every Saturday as we travel the world, find new adventures, and experience the beautiful planet and vast ocean.
Viā is latin for path, way, or road.
Welcome to our channel, where we are share the highs and lows of what it looks like to forge and walk your own path, one step at a time.
We where there by plane for 2 months in may, my wife is from Cartagena. In late january we cross the Atlantic aboard our Black Pearl 🏴☠️⛵ towards Caribbean then Cartagena again, i loved it 🏰🤩 recognized many places on your video 💪🏼 Regards form Tenerife Canary Islands 🙏🏼🍻⚓🌎🏴☠️⛵
do t use bleach use cheap white vinegar. for the loos use baking soda and vinegar. leave it in the loo and pump out slowly. continue this over a few days . cleans the lines a treat . no bleach
I wish i could pull myself from civilization and do what you guys do. I'm live in Seattle and have four years until retirement. My plan is to head down the coast. Do you guys have any suggestions on purchasing a sail boat that I can live on, I'm thinking about a catamaran? I Love your channel, you guys are beautiful!
What a difference a few decades makes. The movie "Romancing the Stone" was centered around Cartagena, but most of it was shot in Mexico due to the high cartel crime in Columbia. It is so nice to see such a beautiful city recovered. Maybe someday, some American cities will be as well. This was a great video, guys. Thank you so much, and say hello to Lucy and Penny. They are troopers and true sailors.
Absolutely LOVE your video!! I was excited to see Cartagena before, but now I am ecstatic! (of course, I can't wait to see Leah and Kyle--which is self explanatory for the excitement) Seeing your video including clips of Cartagena and some history has just elevated my eagerness. Thank you for sharing. Enjoy your future adventures being salty sailors. "Fair Winds and Following Seas"
Really nice video ! It changed my perception of what I thought Columbia was like; that's a good thing ! Your bloopers at the end are the best ! Thank you for sharing your adventures and take care........
Thank you! Yes- later I read bleach can make some mold worse, and unfortunately vinegar (which I also use) doesn’t kill all types of mold on all surfaces. It’s a crap shoot!
Taylor you need to eat something natural for your sea sickness it is called Ginger you have your soudal streamer going make ginger beer it certainly helps me
Yes I’ve tried ginger. It’s quite hard to plan a month in advance for a passage as you usually get only a couple days notice but we eat ginger all the time. Thanks for the thought though!
God has made us all unique are you just have to try workout what suits you I know Ginger works for me I know when my sister used to get car sick when we were young my mum used to feed her pawpaw before the journey
Shoot!! Is that the only option for hanging out in Cartagena?? I’m gonna have to really rally for that kind of docking!! 👏 good job, guys! I had a lump in my throat the whole time lol
Ugh pretty much, yes! The style of the slip was one thing, but the dimensions of this particular one was definitely the hardest part. Glad we had helpers!
I started watching from the beginning (Oct. 2024) and am binging through them now. The content has been super interesting so far, and I'm looking forward to seeing how your content and lives develop over the next 200 episodes!
13:56 It sounds like a West Texas Sand Storm! Where the wind makes those whistling noises coming through the windows ….and there’s tumble weeds under the vehicles the next morning! I’ve never heard it this loud on a Boat before though. Many of those little Islands in San Blas have fresh water holes where the natives (Goonahs-sp) go to wash their clothes and get water. I guess they’re underground Springs. I noticed that they were only on the ones that had coconut tree’s and trails to them from the beach.
You mention tourists and like a lot of sailing channels you seem to think you are not tourists. Well you are tourists and im not sure why sailing channels think they are somehow anything different and you all mention tourists like there is something wrong with them. get over it, that is what you are until you decided to live and work someplace.
We are tourists, and I suppose in this context, after, oh, vomiting for 48 hours straight, and trying to get a sentence together, that “TOURS” is what I meant and what was implied, as I referenced the tour boats zipping around blasting music, and said nothing derogatory, not like there was anything “wrong with them”, only saying it was culture shock as we hadn’t experienced that in a long, long time. You seem very angry about this - maybe you need to get over it?
@@MakingOurWay im good dont worry, it sound like in your case you were not crapping on tourists but many sailing channels act like they are somehow better than a tourist but in reality they are tourists themselves. glad to hear that is not what you meant.
I learned to dock stern in, in a similar style marina on the Chesapeake. It’s much easier if the bow lines are hanging from the pilings. You guys did great in that wind.
Thank you for sharing your reasons! I just starting putting a pros (not cons) list together regarding either house or boat to live on. My wife is not 100% we should abandon the house idea. Anyway, my 'pro' list for boat: Outdoors Cheaper (maybe) learning new thing Fun Community Forward in life Minimize Water view Sustainable More risk - in a way that feels natural, more reward We'll be older tomorrow Experience vs material
When I was working a fishing boat down in Galveston, often someone would be seasick. The boat owner's wife kept a jar of dill pickles for the occasion. She would tell them to "take small bites and chew it well before swallowing". Some it helped a little, some it helped a lot. Something to think about.... 😎
As I sit here on my lanai watching the moon set on the water and watching your video. I remember the old days docking our boat 🚢 and how sometimes it was like a Chinese fire 🔥 drill. Lol Glad ya'll had a safe Passage. Until next time, Aloha from the Big Island of Hawaii. Aloha and cheers 🍻
