Excellent “ambient soundscape”! I’m no good at writing glowing reviews so instead I’ll describe all the ways this DOESN’T suck: The ambient sounds are quiet compared to the music but not TOO quiet (as if in the distance; there may be some that ARE too quiet, but I haven’t felt a need to deafen myself trying to find them so they don’t really matter), well chosen, and nicely varied. Nothing feels out of place, jarring, or repetitive. (Though of course that’s just my opinion - and my particular speakers. Milage will of course vary from both.) The music is also great, evocative and atmospheric, and reasonably varied (neither a samey drone nor a jumble of different tracks). 👍 👍
This one seems like it needs a volume balancing redo, specifically between the music and the ambience. When the music is at a comfortable volume it just sounds like nice music occasionally ruined by a very long engine vroooom. I can only faintly hear that there’s other ambience present if I turn it up uncomfortably loud (even the sirens!). I think this would be a great ambience + music track if the rest of the ambience were actually audible and the vroom stood out less in comparison.
If the long engine sound you mentioned is like the motorcycle revving sound, I actually emphasized it based on the repeating sound from the scene just before K meets Mariette in Blade Runner 2049. However, after reading your feedback, I realize it might have been disruptive to the experience. I’ll also take note of your feedback on the other ambient volume. Thank you for the detailed review!
*_My dear friends, of course, respecting the opinion in the first comment, because I realize that we all have different sensitivities - I think this effect enhances the dark side of this nocturnal city atmosphere, a city where undefined danger truly lurks in the alleys, reminding us of it - because you never know what to expect walking down a foggy, rain-slicked street, in the light of neon signs. Listening to this at night, looking at your city and its lights, the passersby, the traffic, you feel the urge to look out the window, look up, look behind you, because all these sounds are so accurate.
