The mission of theTurtleRoom is to advance survival of the world’s turtles and tortoises through collaborative education, conservation, and research programs.
We believe education is the foundation for successful conservation. Educating about specific species, their natural history, and their care enables both those in the field and those working with captive populations to understand the animals they are trying to save. Additionally, general education about the plight of turtles and tortoises increases awareness which can help create a stronger support system for organizations working to conserve them.

How much have released red eared sliders affected spotted turtles? I used to see a lot in VA, but it seemed like the last few years I saw more & more sliders & fewer Eastern spotteds'.
Grew up in lenawee county Michigan, coolest turtles i found as a kid were the Spotted turtle Blandings turtle an box turtle. The box turtle i swear was big as a footbal or bigger, at the time i thought nothing of it but now 30 yrs later that box turtle is always something i wish id had proof of its size. Never seen one that big ever again it almost makes me think it wasnt what i think it was but well i guess ill never get that question answered.
A tank should be 100 times the size of the turtle? So a 10 cm (4 in) turtle needs a 10 meter tank? Or how am I supposed to interpret the tank size advice... 😅
Turtles don’t hunt turkeys in the wild. It doesn’t matter if it’s lean or not. In captivity we want to replicate there natural environment as much as possible… and insects, crustaceans, fish, frogs, tadpoles aquatic plants
I am writing a children's picture book and the main characters are alligators. I have watched a number of your videos to gain a better understanding of these amazing creatures. Thank you for helping me develop better more realistic characters.
i found a big turtle in the highway in ct my question is can i keep her living out side with the winter she does have a house but nothing that can keep her warm???
This is the only video showing a tortoise breathing like that. I was worried because I haven't heard her breathe like this. I followed her around and she does breathe like this when she is searching for my cat's food. She opens the door to the bathroom just to get to the kittens' food. I followed her to her resting place and she doesn't breathe like this anymore. I looked up a video of an older man explaining what to look out for, as to not go to the vet for unnecessary, expensive trips. I will keep an eye out.
@theTurtleRoom could you edit the name with something that summarises the contents? Only reason being is when I'm working or jumping in the car and looking for a podcast to listen to on the fly I like to know what I'm getting into.
Trying to find information about this species is hard to find. Can you make a better video with more info please. How big do thay get, adhesivenes towards tank mates, temp, age to bread. Normal clutch size.
So I have a question I have a 3 toed I saved her from a bad area she was in and have her in a habitat outside But it’s fall now and I don’t know how to help her in the winter They have to hibernate right?
Yeah if you're going to teach about turtles do not do what you did sticking your finger in the turtle's face like that that's a very stupid thing to do if you do that and the turtle doesn't really know you and even if it does know you it will bite you You should have made that very clear that you should not be doing what you just did That's not smart and not ever put your fingers near turtles mouth or head unless you they know you really well and you know that they won't bite I can do this with my turtles because they know me very well They see me everyday and interact with me because I live right next to my bed literally and a over 300 something gallon tank but that turtle clear as day I can tell it did not like that you put your finger in its face and you're lucky it didn't bite your finger off
I really enjoyed Sy's hummingbird and hawk books and the childrens book about chelonians, and I'm so looking forward to Of Time and Turtles! The turtles are so wonderfully illustrated by Matt.
-Anthony, Happy B-Day! -Cameron,I love Rhinoclemys but aren't they difficult to keep? I have the same problems with Mazuri pellets, my turtles eat them but they don't love it. -Steve, please make a video about your Yellow blotch Map Turtles!!!
