Vinnie has that rare skill of being able to blend insane chops and high energy drumming into an articulate musical flow, all in one phrase. He is the master of flow. Combine that with his now legendary sight reading skills, and you have probably the greatest session (live + studio) drummer of all time.
He's living proof of the idea that you should never meet your heroes. One of the biggest assholes you'll ever meet, and that's really saying something.

Menacing, answers to the melody, plays all around the pulse yet anchors the score. Definitely a shape shifter. Not since Elvin Jones have I heard anything approaching his style.
