Very cool ride, my grandfather gave me one in about 1974 and I loved it! Mine was metallic brown paint with the nice interior, AM-FM radio which was rare for a ‘64.
Thank you for that insightful helpful comment. you can always tell from such a short, simple statement when someone is highly educated, and a true classic car enthusiast.
In the 70s I owned three 56 Oldsmobiles, a black 4 dr post, two 2 door hardtops, one white, the other red and white. Olds brought out in 56 the hydramatic jetaway auto trans which shifted far smoother than the hydramatics of previous years. The 56 324 V8 was higher compression and some other tweaks, it got with the program, compared to the 324 V8 in 54 and 55 Olds. I found the car to be unusually stylish and it got about 17 mpg highway driving, good for a big, powerful car. You might also appreciate I am originally from Portland, Oregon and moved to Texas some time ago. The 56 Olds has got to be one the best Olds offerred.
I restored a '64 Studebaker Cruiser for my dad years ago, very solid nice running driving car, same engine as this, three speed auto with a wierd gear select pattern, very nice example of some good ol' American iron you have there.
Being an original fanatic that’s one beautiful car. Someone is going to get a great car. I’m like you. Take care of it, maintain it and possibly keep it as a collector car. I own a 66 all original, numbers matching, 383 4bbl I bought off the original owner in 1978. To answer your question. The carpet in the trunk was factory and matched the interior carpet. The trunk area in that car is almost excellent.
This 1964 studebaker commander is definitely a classic & very well made & this example seems to be very well maintained. It has that nice classic boxy appearance & its a very nice looking car but unfortunately they don't make cars like this anymore.
Stupid comment. A Chevy motor will go LOTS FASTER for LOTS LESS MONEY than any other motor. If you had actually ever built a hot rod you would know that.
Marauder simply meant that is was either a 2 door or 4 door hardtop. Not a performance package. That J. C. Whitney hood scoop stuck on there should knock $1,000. off the price.
Beautiful car. I had one when I was in the Navy. I had go on a 6 month deployment, when I got back I found that it had been stolen. After 40 years I still miss that car
I agree. This one actually had those on it, but I had the nice set of Torq Thrusts and I thought it might appeal to more people at the time. Thank you for your comment.
Had Dodge would had designed their 62 Darts with the brow molding sitting low around the quarter panels such as on this Studebaker the Dart would had been more appealing to consumers
I believe that 460 V8 was considered a Police Interceptor Engine. Indiana State police used Mercury's. One big thing I saw wrong when you opened the door the manufacturer's information plate was missing. That is the plate that has Vin number, date of manufacture, codes for equipment and color. The Marauder was not only the model, but also the engine, a Marauder 390, or a Marauder 427. This is not a vintage car with all that modification. It is OK to upgrade the engine and transmission, but Cousin Vinny's girl friend would have trouble as an expert witness Identifying this car in court. Shouldn't mess with a vintage car body though. Should not put a hood scoop on a Full-size Mercury. They just didn't have them. The wheels originally had wheel covers with the Mercury logo in the center. Other thwn that nice car.
I didn't restore, or build the car. I just sold it for someone...Several years ago. It was a very nice car in spite of all of your positive comments, and obvious expertise. Thank you so much.
