" Don't worry sir, I got you". That, one single statement from a gunny to an officer, tells anyone all they need to know. Within the ranks of any service branch, when that old worn out, beat up, NCO tells you he's got you? He means every damn word of it. The tears you see, are not for him. Rather they are for the two he lost that day and his sense of responsibility should be emulated. We don't need mroe people like this Major. No, Rather we should BE like this man. There's is a difference. Major, I doubt strongly you'll ever read this but in the event you do just know this. I will, walk with you anywhere, any time, any place and reason and no reason at all. 9th Infantry 7th SF Grp ARVN 1972-1975 18D30 Semper Fi, SIR.
That's what the brotherhood of military service is about. He asked that he be taken so his men could live. Don't misunderstand, that bond doesn't exist in every unit, or among all service personnel. It's a bond that is built over time, a trust that must be earned. Frankly, there are some that never earn it. But many do. I never went to war, most of us don't. That's just the luck of the draw. But if I had to go, as a Navy Hospital Corpsman I would have gone with Marines. And I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. Semper Fi, Trainwreck.
I have served alongside of people, human beings, in another uniform , during another time just like you. I'vr never regreted any of it, even through all the hardships and shortcomings, I'd go back and do it all over again, hands down, no question. 9th Infantry 7th SF Grp ARVN 1972-1975 18D30 Semper Fi Mac.
@@DonB.-Mulefivefive Thanks for responding. I wouldn't trade my time in service for anything. Never deployed, but was always making ready for that reassignment. And thank you for your service. HM3, U.S.N. MCRD, Parris Island, S.C.
