I'm a Navy Veteran, Mathematician, and retired software person who has been knitting since 1982. On this channel I'll show off what I'm working on and what I'm planning using my Yarn Randomizer approach. I'll occasionally put up informational knitting videos as well. Hope you find something helpful, fun or inspiring as you watch!
Love seeing all the projects. Wish I'd got into doing spreadsheets, but computers were only just starting when I was at school and we did not learn about them, shame as I loved maths! Thanks from my homestead in California. Jane
I was very fortunate, my dad introduced me to computers and programming back in the 70s! Ended up combining math and computers for my career (and I so love maths!). :D
@@theyarnrandomizer I left school in 1969 during my last term I asked about a career in computers and I was told only boys got to use computers. Those were the days. Lol
@@epiphany8276 oh the stories I could tell, I was delayed 9 years going to college because of the terrible treatment from teacher in the vo-tech building (first girl to take a class there.) He told me every day how much I didn’t belong there and how women didn’t belong in technical fields. The bad old days!
I love the way you plan all your knitting projects! So organized, thank you for sharing love to listen to your RU-vid while I knit here at my homestead ❤
Delightful to spend the evening with you and my knitting. Have a wonderful vacation! I really love the idea of rotating through some charity and some give-back prizes. Looking forward to seeing some other finishes out of your “ends” basket before the end of the year too!
Having a great time in NM - El Malpais National Monument is amazing, I had no idea these type of old eruption fields were here in NM. I'm excited to get the the end of my old finishes, and keep feeding the basket with new ones! :)
Homestead… Hi Anna, Just discovered your podcast. Enjoyed it very much. & am now a subscriber. The Stephen West blanket is quite an undertaking !! You’re doing an awesome job 🌟 Denise
Another lovely podcast, Anna, and I love the homestead yarn. The colours are fabulous and just the thing to brighten the dark autumnal days here in the UK.
I think everyone here would love the homestead yarn. Curious that I just finished a marathon rewatch of the Harry Potter movies while knitting. I need to find a new series to binge watch as I'm not finished my project yet lol.
I've been trying to convince my husband to watch the Lord of the Rings trilogy - some day I'll get him to watch it with me! I took my teams to see them in the theater back in the day.
I'd love to own a cozy homestead. I'd have some chickens, a dog, and a cat, and a veggie garden, fruit trees, and lots of sweet smelling flowers. It's a dream I know, but no harm in dreaming...
Another relaxing evening here on the homestead with Anna! I laugh every time you talk about weaving in ends. I am at the opposite end of that street, I cannot leave an end free, I just must do them as I go. How wonderful that neither way is wrong and we can both love our yarn time. Enjoy your vacation. Fall is absolutely the best time for travel. The weather is usually gentle and the kids are in school!
It's been an a beautiful trip, and this morning we head to Ghost Ranch - I'm so excited! It's so great that there's something for everyone in knitting, I absolutely love blocking shawls, and of course puzzling out what to do with any beautiful yarn. :)
I just love how organized you are. <3 I never considered myself unorganized until I started watching you, lol. I am in awe of your blanket and can't wait until it is finished. Truly stunning. Homestead.
Lol, organizing things is like fun and games for me, but that's probably something to do with my math background. Everyone finds an approach that works for them, the main thing is how to enjoy knitting as much as possible. I can't wait to see this blanket completed either! I have no idea how I'm going to spread it out for blocking! :D
I've been putting my all into my On the Spice Market this past week (while keeping my blanket caught up.) So I think I'll have some great progress to show next time! :)
You’re a very generous person. The homestead yarn is interesting. Loved all your finished projects. Your motor cycle sweater is looking great too - soon be a finished object I’m sure, along with the huge shawl/blanket. 🤩
Your spreadsheet method of tackling large projects is a great inspiration! Thank you! The colors in the Homestead yarn are lovely; would make a great hat or scarf size shawl.
I am a huge Harry Potter fan and the Nymphadora Tonks color way from homestead is gorgeous! Thank you so much for sharing your experiences and all the beautiful yarn in your stash :)
Finally got to watch this episode after returning from vacation. Totally agree about a provisional cast on vs. pickup stitches. So much easier in my opinion. Your mileage may vary... 🤣. I'm also knitting with High Desert sport right now. Making Emsworth Vest. It is a very bouncy yarn. Great for the lace work.
I’m almost finished with my Coorie-In Poncho. It’s such a nice mostly mindless project to work on that it was my go-to until this last bit with enough stitches to make it just a bit awkward for out and about. Now it’s an at home knit only. Hoping to have it done in the next week or so.
Always a pleasure to "hang out" with you, Anna! Glad that your 10-a-day plan is working so well - love your Harvey Wallbanger! Your Spice Market is gorgeous, too...from this side of the camera I never would have seen the mistake without it being pointed out, and then it still didn't stick out. Love how you put the colors together for that! BTW - Shaniko, now considered a ghost town, would be a fun stop on a motorcycle tour of eastern oregon. There is even is (used to be?) a great yarn shop in Christmas Valley in addition to shops in Sisters and Bend. Best, Wendy (in oregon)
Thank you! The colors of the On the Spice Market still remind me of comic book colors, I love it. We did a big (maybe around 2,200 mile) ride around Colorado on our BMW 650s back in 2017 that was wonderful. My husband has been talking about heading up to Alaska at some point, if that's on the road a stop in Oregon could fit into that. :)
I love Kroy too! I did find that the 60s stripes I used were wound in the opposite order. Maybe it was a fluke, but fyi when it comes up you can check when you get to the second skein.
Oh I had this happen with the Green Marl stripes, they were reversed from one skein to the next, not sure how this can happen, but I've experienced it too! Crazy!
Absolutely love all your projects and your podcast. You always have so much information and I find that really helpful and interesting ✨ I’ve never been to a knitting retreat before but would love to do one at some point!
Congratulations on your 1000th subscriber! I have never been on a retreat, but it sounds like a wonderful way to meet new knitters and learn new skills.
One of my favorite things to do was to attend a knitting retreat. I met so many new people and learned a lot about knitting. I really enjoy your podcast.
