Do you apply baby oil to the wax too ? Because you mentioned you do the same process as the polish . Also do you use the same pad for polish and waxing ? or should I use a different polish pad for the wax ? Also how much pressure are you using? Thanks I’m advance
@yachtworks370
@yachtworks370 14 дней назад
Hey…. No you don’t add oil to the wax … it’s better to have two pads or just use microfiber towels for the waxing. Make sure you wipe off the polish really good before waxing. The polishing is getting polish/oil into the pours and the wax is basically sealing off the job and protecting. You don’t need much pressure. The buffer does the work. I recommend buffing everything first. Then polishing larger sections than the square in this video before waxing. That was just for demonstration. Best of luck!

Im about to do this to a 2007 Malibu, but i do not want to remove the Gelcoat in the slightest, does using this remove the gelcoat? and i guess if i needed a paint correction, could i do this with out removing the gelcoat
@yachtworks370
@yachtworks370 14 дней назад
It’s normal that Buffing will always remove a little gel coat….you don’t need a lot of pressure… just let the pad and product work… depending how much the boat is out in the elements, I recommend you or the owner every once and a while keep up on the polish and wax or just wax more often so you buff it less than you need to. Make sure the wax is applied for about 10 mins (not in sun) before wiping off with good clean microfiber towel. Best of luck with the Malibu!

Thanks for the tip question I have. I’ve got a Hydro bass boat with a lot of metal flake in there with this technique and products, you used work on that as well and by the way,dawn dish soap and hot water works wonders. Cover it with a good amount of it. The whole Pad scrub it in make a lot of foam and you’ll see it working.

Question, why so many coats of primmer etc.? White then green then the red ablative paint? once the red ablative paint is shot it needs repainted anyway, I think.
@yachtworks370
@yachtworks370 2 месяца назад
You really need to protect your hull with the primer and the paint sticks well to the primer. You put on multiple coats of primer for protection and different colors so you know how much primer is left. Different colors of paint also lets you know how much paint has worn off. Good luck !

Yeah it is pretty messy.I’m not by any means trying to knock your method or anything like that. I was just commenting on the texture of the product. I ve tried several products and methods for restoring clear coats and I can see the abrasiveness acting as fine 2000-3000 grit. I looks promising and I think I may try it out in the future. Have you ever thought about the micro plastic pollution associated with sanding these boats and boating in general? It’s a significant problem. Epoxy is a type of synthetic plastic and is not biodegradable. Sanding the epoxy bottom coat off must release huge numbers of micro plastic particles into the air and surrounding boat yard, much of which will ultimately end up in the ocean. Multi ply that by all the other boats doing the same thing as a part of regular maintenance and you’ve got a massive amount of micro plastic dust. “Operators apply marine coatings to all parts of seagoing vessels for protection. That includes the hull, the superstructure and on-deck equipment. The materials involve solid coatings, anticorrosive paint or antifouling paint. Developers use several types of plastics for marine coatings, including mostly polyurethane and epoxy coatings, vinyl and lacquers. Weathering and spills during application, maintenance and disposal of these coatings cause the release of primary microplastics. Marine coatings account for 4 percent of primary microplastics in the ocean.” www.horiba.com/usa/scientific/resources/science-in-action/where-do-microplastics-come-from/

@yachtworks370
@yachtworks370 2 месяца назад
Hey trimarans are cool! …It took maybe about 15 mins of actual work…. But all the in between parts adds time. Changing pads adding the product getting your buffing towels ready , moving the scaffolds or whatever you’re standing on, waiting between applying the wax and wiping it off, etc …. To make things go faster, buff the whole thing first and then do the polishing and waxing after. Get that baby shining! Best of luck !

No it doesn’t destroy it… eventually after many many times of doing it, the gel coat will run thin. Just do it and then occasionally throw more wax on it and you won’t have to do it often.

Great video! I’m in the process of taking off all the old paint myself right down to the gel coat. I’m scraping instead of sandblasting because for some reason I like to put in as much work as possible on my boat 😂 question for you though! It looked like there were painted x’s around the hull before you put the first green coat on after the primer, was that for any specific purpose or just goofing around? Thanks for all the great info!

Haha … thanks for the great funny comment … scraping is so much fun ! And then the sanding ! Oh the joys … but the harder you work the better the payoff when it’s all done! 😬… to answer your question , the X’s were us marking where the first coat of primer was a little thinner and marked where to add a little extra on the next coat. Although, goofing around is still high on the priority list 😄 … it’s a necessary to stay sane sometimes. Best of luck to you ! Keep your eye on the goal! Thanks again !

Hey Lee, anywhere from 1500-2000 will be fine for polishing, whatever you’re comfortable with…. waxing doesn’t have to be that fast and can even be done by hand , just let the wax sit for a 5-10 mins before wiping off (not in the sun , don’t let wax dry) Best of luck to you !

How is your work process? 1. Pick a square like in the video, rub, polish and wax and the take the next square? 2. Rub the whole boat, in squares, Then do the same with polish and wax? 3. skip the squares and just work your way around the boat one step at a time?

I wear a simple mask if products are dusty and I wear a good respirator when using toxic products like bottom paint for example that give off harmful fumes. Side tip: I found the Wim Hof Breathing technique a few years ago and it helps me with that as well as many other benefits. Search for “Guided Wim Hof Method Breathing” and give it a try when you are laying down in a high oxygen low toxic environment, I.e. at the park near trees, or just near an open window with trees outside. … here’s a good Respirator mask : amzn.to/3UrBhrm Good simple masks : amzn.to/3SJS8nP

@yachtworks370 what they are trying to say is that using silica (actual SAND) is extremely bad. Because the silica (sand) is blasted into particles that are so small they can stay in the air for hours. If there is a breeze they will carry on the wind. And they are extremely damaging to lungs. I think a lot if people say "sand blasting" when they mean other mediums - like slag, walnut shells, or glass beads (which somewgat surprisingly doesn't cause the same problems as sand). But you definitely should not use sand in "sand blasting".
