I was a tenor preforming this at the honor choir where this song was first sang and almost, A year later this song still hits the chords of my heart & alwrys is their for me when I’m alone. This song means the world to me and from the bitten of my heart thank you Matt for composing such a beautiful personal piece
The V-7 at 4:09 is one of the most heartbreaking things ever written. I was lucky enough to get to perform this at the Pasadena ACDA convention in March and still listen to it today. Thank you, Matthew, for this amazing gift of a song.
It was such an honor to meet you at this concert. My student loved being a part of this choir and getting to work with you and Dr. Talberg! Gorgeous piece!
Hi Matthew. It was thrilling to have you zoom into Lehigh Valley Chorale's rehearsal last night (I am the blue haired alto you pointed out). Your encouragement and suggestions to LVC will be taken to heart, and I know we will do an amazing job at our concert. And of course your reference to SpongeBob had all of us laughing. And finally I have to tell you, in referring to the beginning and ending of the song and the sounds of the train, you are talking to a retired New York City subway train operator!! PS...I am your newest fan!!
It was such an honor to be a part of this Premiered song it is absolutely beautiful words cannot describe how amazing this peice is. So many emotions were going threw my mind I still can't believe I was a part of this masterpiece! Love you Dr.Hazzard 💗💗
Hi Dr. Hazzard, I'm the student in Corona Del Mar High School which is the school you came like few weeks ago, I love this piece of music so much! Thank you for creating this masterpiece, and thank you for making a workshop with us! Tysm!!
Absolutely gorgeous. It's kinda weird having the lyrics be about flight on a more classical style sound but it really fits with the word choice. Absolutely love it.
This is the text: VII from "Ocean Poems" by Jonathan Talberg So much to see and to seek So much to sing and to dance So much to gather and reap So much to sow and to row With only three score and ten We should explore while we can Seven seas. Seven stars. Seven continents.
I sung this as 2nd Tenor in Utah’s All State Choir a year ago under the direction of Johnathan Talberg himself!! I love the melodic lines and the difficulty that comes with this piece! It was literally my all time favorite to sing and I still study that music today!
Had the opportunity to hear this piece during a rehearsal at CSULB when I shadowed there as a prospective student. Honestly listening to this choir sing this beautiful song helped me make the decision to attend CSULB in the fall! You’re such an amazing composer and arranger! Thank you
Wow, thanks Kate! And congratulations--going to Cal State Long Beach was the single greatest decision I've ever made in my life. I hope you *love* it there.
These songs that you make are so magnificently different. Unique and filled with beauty. I performed The Prow at Nevada All State this year and the thing I would do to perform more of your songs. Thank you
Gosh. This may go down as one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. Thanks Trandoms-I’m honored that you enjoy my music, and thrilled that you had a great time with The Prow. I owe Giselle Wyers a toast for performing it with you guys!
This was the best song to come out of the Arizona Allstate choir due to the storytelling we could finally share. Thank you for your beautiful music keep doing Gods work!!!
I sang this in the Arizona All-State choir this weekend, and having the interaction with you to improve the piece was quite a special treat. This song is absolutely beautiful, thank you for listening to us! :)
I sang this in the Arizona All-State choir this weekend. Thank you for you writing this beautiful piece. And thank you for FaceTiming us and helping us even more :)
I absolutely loved performing this in the Arizona All State Choir. Your call also created an even deeper connection I had to this song than before! Thank you so much!!
@@matthewlyonhazzard singing this song for you was the highlight of my all state experience! And your feedback definitely helped us really take it to the next level, thank you so much for taking time out of your day to help us!
This performance is by the Bob Cole Chamber Choir at Cal State Long Beach. But, the piece has been performed by the Arizona, Utah, and Oregon All-State choirs in the last three years!
So did I! Meeting (soon to be) Dr. Matthew Hazzard was probably one of the best experiences I’ve had with choir in my life. Hearing the story of the song first hand and his reaction to us singing it almost made me tear up haha
I heard this first at the 2019 Choral Invitation at the Bob Cole Conservatory, and this piece has had a dear place in my heart ever since. I hadn't been able to find it until just yesterday, but the impact this piece has had on me is beyond words. It's given me a true appreciation for what the human voice can do, and for the minds and souls that go into making true art. Thank you for this wonderful gift you've given us.
I sang this song my junior year in my advanced choir and I was having the hardest time finding this arrangement until now. You're a fucking legend and this is an amazing piece!!!
Performed this at All-State this year and it is by far the best piece of choral music I’ve ever listened to or performed, in my opinion. The warmth of the music that blends perfectly with the text- it’s just unmatchable and emotionally resonates with so, so many things.
Have you heard the Oregon All State choir sing this?? Dr Tahlberg directed us and told us all about you! I hope you get in touch with him and get that recording!! Gorgeous!!!!! Also, please try and get yourself on Spotify! People would totally listen to your channel! Thanks for being so talented! I cried when I sang this :)
I can’t believe I didn’t respond to this! Thanks so much Katherine, it means a lot to hear that it affected you. I love the Oregon All State recording, and was thrilled when I got it. You guys gave such a heartfelt and touching performance. Hope you’re still making choral music like that out in Oregon!
@@matchboxmatt I will be attending PSU in the fall! So yes definitely! Currently, I am at BYUI and I am a vocal performance major! I am looking forward to furthering my career at PSU in the fall :)
That's heartbreaking! I know Jon was so excited to perform that piece with you guys. COVID has not been kind. As soon as this virus is over, I am choir-ing so hard. Hope you get a chance to S1 dolphin next year!
