Does that actually make a difference? I feel like the change in tonal quality between up and downstrokes is almost negligible if you’re using proper picking technique. Practicing is always good, but in a song where you’re playing single notes (not chords/power chords) it’s easier/more efficient to use alternating pick strokes.
You are right when it comes to soloing and very technical riffs alternate picking is more effective! This is more for creating heavy, meaty riffs. The chugs give the sound more umph that is harder to get when alternate picking :). However if you could down pick all of through the fire and flames that would be impressive 👀
