What i do just depends. If its in an artist space, i have previously had a history of telling them off lol but i dont like doing that. I think it's good to set boundaries. "I appreciate thway you want to help but I'm not looking for unsolicited advice. If i want some, I will ask!"
it would have been helpful to clearly label each sheet of paper with what you prepped with because I got hopelessly confused with you waving the sheets "this is this and this is that" I could not keep it straight🤯
Damn, I am starting learning today and came across this vid. First advice is not to buy cheap products. He pulled out those paints and I looked at mines that I bought the other day and they're the same brand!
Have you ever noticed that umber rises through the toplayer of the colour covering it? After a few years. It can ruin a painting, especially when used in the main subject(s). Thanks for this video.
I'm reading the comments and......What do you mean he does not have a YT channel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?? you can see the passion he feels right through his eyes, It would be an honour to have such an art teacher.
The grey-blues you get when using e.g. Simple Carbon black in (i suppose it used to be lead) white oil paint, was used to great effect to enhance The Nordic Light, on furniture and (gilded!) boiserie, during the Swedish Rococo and Gustavian ages. Refined and low key, very elegant. They also did subdued green hues, exactly like that. Very often it was boiserie-like Trompe-l'œil. Sweden was poor on riches, but rich in taste, after loosing The Great Nordic War. There is such an interior at the Röhsska museum in Gothenburg. Various great houses in Skåne/Halland. Drottningholm is more Baroque, more overpowering what i remember. Except the China Pavillion. And it was not yet perfectly finished, like it would become during the 1800:s.
Wow! I’m a figurative artist but you make me want to paint cypress in Wellington Green. Looks like I need to order some in the morning. I LOVED THIS COLOR LESSON. Kinda funny too… I recently had to have 3 cypress removed because their roots were lifting the pavement and invading the plumbing.
and P.S. wow! The word "amateur" and its origins---I had no idea. I am an "amateur astronomer" but have never liked that we are called that because it felt like "childish/unskilled" so never quite understood why we have to be called "amateurs". But now I have a whole new definition! One that I love. I am an amateur astronomer. 🤩
wow! I am only 20 minutes in, but had to pause to say "wow", such interesting information regarding the origin and names of these pigments, e.g. Raw Sienna vs. Burnt Sienna! Who knew?? and of course, how interesting about black and how it mixes, and also Lamp Black and Ivory Black name origins. I am totally enthralled. I have always been a bit of a nerd when it comes to the detail facts, so I am loving this. And I am realizing just now, how fabulous the presentation is too! I'm sure another teacher might not come across so interesting. Thank you!! Now eagerly back to the lesson......
Whatever you do, don't sniff the thinner like he does three minutes into the video. Just because you can't smell it doesn't mean it's harmless. Data safety sheet shows the lavender cleaner is highly toxic to aquatic life, as well as other issues.
Cameron here. Thank you so much for having me! This was such a blast, please feel free to comment if you have any questions for me about the new Bio-Based acrylic series, painting or art in general! Thank you all for tuning in! 💕
