My dad was a grenadier guard and did several exercises with the SAS. I always wondered if he was in. It was before I was born. He never told us much about his military career but he seemed to know a whole lot about them. He was out in Ireland. He said that a lot of his time was spent in pubs just drinking and listening. He’s been dead a good while now. We tried to get his records but they are sealed. We couldn’t afford his funeral so we had help with that too. I wish I knew more and I wish I had pictures.
Fun fact: the Iranian Embassy in London has the world's largest balcony. Or at least you'd think so considering how many people claimed to have been there one afternoon in 1980. Did they have a special event on or something?
For anyone that didn't know Eddie Stone was the DS on SAS are you tough enough. It was the 90's version of SAS who dares wins show. Well worth a watch, much more realistic than the current show. Also funny trivia the pilot for the show was a disaster, all the contestants VW'd on the first day of filming, so they had to soften it up a bit.
I know this isn't the usual question for these vids, but does anyone know the piece of rock/dance music which is playing when Eddie and Alec demonstrate parachuting? Bit of an earworm.
If you lose your money you've lost nothing, if your health suffers you've lost something and if you lose your character you've lost everything. Never in my wildest dreams did I have the ingredients to join the S.A.S.

Three people in my family attempted selection. My dad and I both failed. My uncle, well that's an interesting one. I suspect he may have passed, there's enough evidence, but I can't prove it and a lot of guys in the regiment don't tell their family. But when I was preparing for selection my uncle drilled me and told me it was the toughest thing he's ever done. And if you know the guy, you'd get a good idea of how tough it is because pass or fail, he's the guy who'd claw his way out of hell itself or die trying.
The MoD also don't comment on your service even if you're publicly known like Mac or Eddie Stone. They just have some vague comment about "distinguished career in the British Army" and leave it at that.
