Reviewing Mantic's catalog is sort of an interesting way to survey the company, but I'd enjoy this video more if you showed some physical minis, either painted or unpainted.
Completely agree I did this a year ago. Models are not quite as good cosmetically. But they are good and a dam sight cheaper. If they can just fill out there lore a bit more. But yes the fact they seem to care does really help I’d recommend them too
Thank you so much! Great and Important Video! 13:30 Still the PRices and Minis do not really Convince me... they are Cool, and its affordable.... but SONG OF ICE AND FIRE is also a Power House in its own regards. 16:00 3 Knights ....60 to 70 Bucks. WTF.... Thats just burn a whole in your Pocket!
Could use One Page Rules rulesets and build your own rules for what you need. Or maybe find something in one of the existing community books that could match up? I know there's fan made rules so you can field GW Titan minis and Tau/Eldar ones that should replicate giant robots and Mechs quite well. And there's stuff designed to field Tyranid Bio Titans that could work for Kaiju. I think The Dragon Trappers Lodge have done rules to field some of their Kaiju inspired stuff too.

How many left arms that are holding the guns are in the kit?
I'd have to go look at the pictures again, cuz I have all the models put together now....but it's not enough for all the weapons. Most have their own though, but the special weapons for sure all used the same left arm which I think is "D" on the sprue. There were like 3 or 4 weapons that went with that left arm.
Mantic is the best gaming company out there right now. Their games have ways been fantastic to play not being bogged down in endless rules and nonsense like other companies. They are quick to learn and super fun to play. I remember reading the rules for Deadzone and thinking this just makes sense, this company is getting everything right. I've played Mars Attacks, Deadzone, Walking Dead, Hellboy, Vanguard (My favorite Mantic game!) and Dungeon Saga and looking forward to Firefight and Kings of War. But above all, they love their customers and actually care about what we think. I will always be a fan of this company! Thanks Ronnie and team you are the best! (PS - their miniatures are getting better. Every new release is an improvement on the last. I love them. Great models, great games!)
The only problem I have is with their injection molded plastic kit figures(the Forge Father figures) do not come with any instruction sheets for assembly. Some of them have a heck of a lot of small parts.
The new ambush boxes and the new starters have assembly instructions now and i think on their websites you can find them for enforcers and forgefathers too
I have a soft spot for Mantic games but it's been hard to get my friends into their offerings, I've only really succeeded with Vanguard and to a lesser extent Deadzone. The rulesets for the bigger games like Kings of War were a bit too simplified/abstracted compared to the likes of Warhammer Fantasy, and while they have got better some of their sculpts are... not great. Not to mention the fact that they still use restic/PVC plastic for many models which is horrible to work with. Also personally gutted that they seem to have dropped support and/or development for Vanguard, which is a fantastic game.
After Stationforge quit making orks I left, was one of the main reasons I was there. I swapped to ZBSminiatures on Tribes, they have some pretty decent orcs. Udos3dworld was a surprise to me when they got hit. They had so many good models. I do have those orcs though, still haven't printed them. After seeing them printed and painted though, I might have to do mine up. Thanks for the great video.
I didn't get into StationForge for the orks, so that didnt bother me much, but i understand completely! There are a couple creators where if they changed from their normal, I would stop supporting them...not because they aren't good creators, but because I only supported them for a specific theme/type of model. Thanks for watching!!!
They are from one of Bestiarum's Beastmen collections, if I remember correctly. The specifics should be in my "Can you print Slaves to Darkness" full video.
Hmm, good questions!...I'm not even sure, because I haven't even thought about whether they would be regular guard or traitor guard, and I think that could play a big part in those answers... I'll have to think about it!
Kyoushuneko's weird war minis where made for use with Bolt Action Konflikt 47, they are coming out with a new edition of K47 or at least in the works. Konflikt 47 would be you best bet as its still in production for rule books and minis, the genre is called Weird War II . Kyoushuneko's sculpts are more on the heroic scale of 28mm , there are quite a few 3d makers for weird war on cults3d as well, search for Dust tactics , weird war and konflikt 47.
I am still currently putting together marauders and enforcers from the starter set. Also they have a new faction coming up for the game as well. I look forward to getting into a game sometime.
It's funny how old world players will complain that conquest or AoS minis are too detailed and overdesigned but when someone calls old warhammer fantasy minis ugly they don't understand and that they're "charming" and "have character" and can't comprehend the fact that people can find modern minis to equally have character and charm.
Great Video! If you compare the prices, it’s better to look at the army Price. A 2000 points conquest Army will cost 300-600 bucks. In 40K you spend at least 1k, i think in OldWorld even more! Consider this 😉 I got my 2500 Spires for about 280€
The models certainly look better than the 30 years old TOW models, and I think the Tomb Kings are a particularly ugly faction at that. It's completely legitimate to criticise GW for selling these ancient sculpts as if they were new. That being said, I do think it's worth comparing it to some of the AoS kits, which is a much closer comparison than either TOW or 40k, and when I do that there's just something that doesn't quite do it for me with the Conquest models. I think part of it is the way they're painted, that kind of super shaded dynamic lighting look is something I personally don't jive with, and a lot of the models seem based around that with lots of curves and exposed musculature. But I think more fundamentally a lot of the models just lack the distinctive silhouette of a GW model, and your eyes kinda just glaze over the whole range without finding anything to focus on. Like, in the thumbnail you include one of those old night goblin models; I would argue they're actually one of the best Oldhammer models around because you can immediately tell at a glance what that unit is. That's something you can't really do with a lot of the Conquest range, and certainly some of that is familiarity, but I think it's also this design approach that looks at models as individual pieces, not as components in an army. AoS increasingly has this problem too, but I think Conquest has it much worse.
Out of all the points in this comment section this is definitely the best. It really is true that if you see an array of conquest on a board you'll really need to get in close to see what a unit is about if you're not familiar since they're going for a much more dark fantasy style the models blur together much like in the art into an array of shapes instead of easily recognizable pieces. And if I see a board of warhammer fantasy everything will be very easy to recognize who they are, and what they're doing. Which is why for me mu favorite conquest minis are their cavalry and monstrous infantry since not only does the dark fantasy aesthetic make them extra intimidating and eye catching but since they're usually in units of three they stand our extremely clearly especially armies like the spires and words who are very monster heavy
So my observation is. why play Mantic as an alternative to GW? Why not play it for its own sake? Why does any game have to be played as an alternative to any other game, like so many content producers seem to suggest? You should be playing any game for its own sake and because you enjoy it of course. I play multiple games not because one is better than the other but because they have value in their own right.
I agree, we should be playing Mantic games just to play Mantic games, or other companies' games. But this video was specifically made because people were mad at GW and looking for alternative games.
How original, complaining about GW prices. Do I wish they were cheaper? Sure . But end of the day GW knows a heck of a lot more about pricing their products than you or I. All the Conquest models you showed look horrible. I don't like the style at all. I'll choose classic Warhammer style models every day and twice on Sunday.
Conquest is nice, but... The models are not that great. The details get muddled by bad moulds and flash all around and sometimes have just to much going on. I got a Old Dominion army but I keep it on hold and pain it bit by bit. Meanwhile. I'm also doing Old World Orcs and it goes like a train. A.K.A. - The old models of Fantasy/Old World are just so much easier to handle and paint and not as busy. Still look great for 20/30 year old models.
