happy and glad you were able to switch to an earlier flight. Kudos to that manager. Korean Air delayed my LAX to ICN last year by over 5 hours, would've missed my connecting flight to SYD. I arrived at LAX a day prior from Miami, and before I headed to the airport hotel, I went to the check in desk & expressed my concern about the misconnection and how I have to be in SYD that day. The manager was unwilling to help. He said 'come back tomorrow and we will put you on another ICN SYD flight 24 hrs later... So at the end, I had to borrow someone's phone (didn't have free international calls) to ring up Korean Air's hotline and then they were able to route me via Honolulu to LAX and still make it to my SYD flight.
Awesome trip report. I think it's due to 2 flights of CX departing only an hour difference, so passengers had options to choose so each flight wasn't very highly-loaded. And that helped you to have a full row, which was brilliant for this long flight
I have the same flight in October. I know Alaska doesn't print the boarding passes for Cathay Pacific for some reason, but I know the bags still get checked through. Couldn't you have picked up your boarding passes at the gate rather than exiting the secure area and going to the main counter in SF, only to have to go through security again? That's what I was planning to do to save time.
@TheTripReporter I flew Alaska a few months ago and they wouldn't print my EVA passes. I thought I had to go to the main counter in SF. Only after the fact did I realize I could just get the passes at the gate now that the terminals are connected. Live and learn.
Amtrak’s on board food is pretty grim, so a good assortment of at least cheese and fruit would be smart. Amtrak riders are good bar customers.. The good clam chowder that wasn’t staples Seattle stops …has vanished.
27:07 no, demand can be high, just depends where you fly from, sometimes flights can be empty which is what happened to your flight. Usually demand from Hong Kong to JFK is quite high
Ah yes. The inflight map on board Cathay Pacific. Every summer I usually fly on board Cathay Pacific either on their A350-900, B777-300ER, or if I’m lucky, the A350-1000. I fly from Hong Kong to London and back and I never get board of Cathay, especially the inflight map
Shame on Alaska for no complimentary meal on a 7 hour flight. American companies need to get back to the basics. Most foreign airlines offer complimentary on just 2-3 hour flights. 😂
It is not fair to issue a judgment and generalize it just for one time. I have traveled over the course of 30 years to more than 20 countries around the world and with a total number of flights exceeding 200 flights on various airlines. EgyptAir flights constituted half of this number and not once did a lost bag or a delay occur. Thus, I can judge with my own eyes that it is one of the best airlines I have traveled on, but I mention the bad airlines because most of them were like you, one or two flights, and this is not accurate for me to judge.
Good that you got your fix of the Sky Clubs in SEA and LAX. Impressive lineup of Alaska and Delta Airlines mainline aircraft in SEA. Smooth and quiet takeoff, cruise and landing on Delta's A321neo. Nice looking and comfortable first Class cabin on the A321neo. Great meal, service and Delta Studio TV/Movie/Music selection. Advice for eating chicken at a buffet. Unless it is fried chicken or chicken in a sauce, after sitting more than 15 minutes under a heat lamp or over a warmer, the chicken dries out.
