I absolutely loved him on the TCM Halloween Sunday Night movies intros with Ban Mankiewicz, his knowledge of the films is quite Impressive, and his impressions of stars, especially Bette Davis, had me roaring!
Look at him at Christmas time with the ladies of the view so cute I like when he sang Christmas music I just like saying comedy shows and about Mario when he’s funny then he does a comedy show I’ll Collett that
Mario absolutely does more than imitate Judy Garland, though his phrasing, breathing, enunciation, vibrato and timing are perfection..but he goes one step further and channels her....Judy did not really care for those imitating her, but I think she broke through the realm in staunch support and approval of this performance.
Was craving Cantone, and saw this clip, my interest was there, immediately! Never does he disappoint. So brilliant, I am a big fan of his work! Thanks for posting.
I love Mario. He's brilliant, talented and should star on Broadway.....I'm also happy for him and his husband, Jerry Dixon since 2011. Today is 1/23/2018
Cantone sounds like an ignorant vulgarian when he goes off on Bob Dylan. You either get Bob Dylan and his genius idiosyncrasies or you don't. Dylan received the Nobel Prize in Literature. Cantone will be easily forgotten for the minor role he played in the cheap seats circus of American television. For anyone who gives a damn about what is really important, look for this on RU-vid: "Texted Version - Bob Dylan 2016 Nobel Lecture in Literature"
Noe Berengena but Dylan couldn't carry a tune in a bucket! Out hus catter-walking up against Sinatra, Jack Jones, Tony Bennett, Nat King Coke... he was a nightmare for anyone with a 'musician 'a ear'.
You are absolutely correct. I don't think Dylan could hold a candle to any of the people you mention. (I am a great fan of each one, BTW.) His genius is not in the vocal chords exactly. But he was a key figure in the invention of a new kind of music. It was radical to say the least. When he went electric many in the folk music world called him a traitor. His contribution to our culture is of a stature that deserves respect, not the derisive jokes Cantone made about his "horrible" Christmas album.
Noe, I think Mario's sole point was that to many Dylan's voice itself is insufferable. Curious, though. Joni Mitchell (someone who has called Dylan a plagiarist) once said, "I like some of Bob's songs, but musically he's not very gifted." What are your thoughts on that?
+Peter D -- Thank you for bringing up that question. It helps me to clarify what I think. I suppose what Joni meant by "musically" was Bob's delivery, as opposed to his songwriting. Because many of the songs are gloriously memorable. The first time I heard "Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands" I was practically in a hypnotic state. That song carried me beyond any sense of time. Many of the tunes on "Highway 61 Revisited" and "Blonde on Blonde" are unforgettable. I first heard them long after he recorded them but they had a huge impact. Did Bob sing or play the guitar as well as Joni? Easy answer: NO. It is my personality to hold some people in high regard, to look at them as exceptional human beings. (The artist as a visionary, the artist as an enigma, the artist as a non-conformist...) I am not a die-hard Dylan fan (as some of my friends are) but I think he should be given proper deference. You might be able to tell where I am going regarding Cantone's remarks. IMHO :o) -- there are different levels of humanity. I don't really believe that all people are equal (as for their innate gifts). I do believe they are all capable of rising to their best, but those who are merely commenting on others (often at others' expense) are, in the words of Kathy Griffin "on the D list." I hope you understand what I am trying to say.
