Thanks for the video! I just want to get in the game and have been researching for days..I've been looking for a good hybrid setup for 1000-1500 and have been really in between getting a used A7 iii or new a6600 or Nikon Z5 which are both 1000 new(Nikon is on sale..but i know in future i prefer sony system for lens options etc) A6400 is the only good used deal i see for around 600 these days. I saw Stuart Rodwell do some videos here on 6700 with sigma 56mm 1.4 and it's epic but i feel the price is over my budget for now Also saw the A7rii video - perfect photo camera, pity it's only good for photos
You got 500+ comments for your professional Knowledge of what you talking about and Down to the Earth great personality MS/Malcolm thank you for sharing bet late but late better than never 👌🏿😎
Hello. I offer professional video services primarily in the field of music videos and short video commercials. I have a Sony a7sIII, Sigma DG DN Art 24-70, DG DN Art 50mm 1.4, and Sigma DG DN Art 24mm 1.4. Since I've been receiving more event orders lately where they want both video and photo, I want to get a budget body on which to teach my wife. Since I always use the 24-70 on the a7sIII at events, I can let her use the 50mm on the a7rII. Do you think the a7rII is a suitable body for her to learn on, but still justifies the level to get paid for photo services?
Sorry I am late to reply, but I would get an A7iii for you wife and for yourself as a second body. It does a great job for video and works very easily as a photo body with a far better auto focus system.

This lens gives you much more reach then the sigma, It will really come down to your needs, If you don't need the reach, the sigma would be a great choice.
This was so close to being all I needed… I ordered the tripod collar knob and cap, but when I went to assemble it the screw that came out of my GM 100-400 lens did not fit the new knob- and I couldn’t find the part # for a replacement screw. Any help would be appreciated!
I do recall the screw cap that holds the knob on seemed slightly more protruded then the original knob, it did not bother me. Its been so long since I did this repair, and no longer own the lens. I can not think how it exactly fit.
I have not tried any Tamron glass on my A7Rii. However I’m sure it works great. Sony gave mount specifications to 3rd party manufacturers and they have all the information they need from Sony to make sure the lens is compatible and functions correctly. So as long as the 28-200 is a native FE-mount lens. It should work perfectly.
@@darrylmachum1214 yes Sony E-mount is the basic mount. A lens will need to clarify whether or not it is for Full frame (FE) or APS-C (E). Both will work on the A7Rii, but if you put a APS-C lens on the camera it will only shoot at about 16mpx. The camera has a setting to turn off/on/auto for the lens selection.
@@MalcolmWalker ok thanks I’ve watched so many incredible reviews on that lens and I know it works well on the A7riii but these cameras have larger than average sensors and this camera (the A7rii) is nine years old. Thanks for your help.
Hey Malcolm, loved the review and you've gained another subscriber. I've had the A7R2 for a couple of years now. I'm about to embark on some Milky Way shooting and have just ordered myself the 20mm 1.8g lens. Trouble is I've just come across the 'star eater' problem while researching astro photography with the R2 which is a little concerning. Have you encountered this at all?
@@erswaythis problem is way overblown in the forum. I used the A7rii with 20/1.8 regularly for Astro. If you are missing couple of tiny stars, it’s not even noticeable
I have moved on to the A7R3 in the Sony world. It fixed what was lacking in the A7RII. Mostly I could not deal with the struggling eye focus. The R3 is much, much better--and it nails pretty much everything much better. It was a good upgrade. However, the Sony A7RII felt way better in the hand as it was a bit thinner. In this regard it was perfection. If they could put the improved eye focus in the R2, I would purchase a used R2 body. It really was a joy to handle. Good video. Thanks.
I agree completely, I have been watching the A7Riii market because the A7iii was so good, Before I didnt see the need for the upgrade but if the right deal comes along, I would get a mk3.
@@MalcolmWalker Got lucky (I think). Purchased the A7R3 for a reasonable price. That and the Canon R6 are my current line up. But I also own three Canon 5D Classics--best images I have ever taken come from them!
I would charge it overnight so speed wasn’t an issue for me. However it does slow it down a bit, but never hooked up the charger to a higher output brick.
@@MalcolmWalker i mean because i bought wireless charging magnet to my car and it for sure is slow, i bet also speed of charging depends on the conductivity of the case’s material. I wonder if this one would be better conducting than my nephews’… because i checked on his case and that magnet never charged anyb1 though it shown that it charges. And in reviews of the magnet charger they say good opinions. So i wonder to buy tech21 blindly or do a wider research…
@@bogslawK only the magnet from apple fit inside the case ridges. I did finally find a car mount charger that does work on the case. While it is powerful enough to gain positive charging while the maps run, it gets really hot and has overheated due to a combination of charging wirelessly and being mounted to the windshield in the sun. Some charges using wireless have to have enough wattage. In the car charger how many watts is it?
I film it in the standard 16:9 the camera shoots in, then I crop in slightly to a preset screen resolution in my editor of 3840 x 1920 giving it a wider aspect ratio to fill more of the phone screens. It’s possible now with newer phones to go wider but I have not done that yet.
Since you shoot a lot of Sony can you make a video on the Sony focus areas like wide etc etc for us new a6xxx model users. I come from over 20 years with Nikon so I'm used to mostly using either 9 points or group for sports to using single point for mostly anything else but the Sony system is a lot different the wide and other zones do a lot more
I can definitely do that, thanks for the tip. I shoot in AF-C wide. Anything under F8 will utilize the “dancing Squares” and be your most adaptive auto focus.
@@MalcolmWalker I'm not talking about afs or afc but focus areas not modes aka wide etc seems sony. Is a bit different than Canon Nikon Etc on how their zones work. For fast action and tracking example if you are filling the frame with a clean background you can use wide with no need to try to use single point. Where as other systems you still might need single point.
@@DAVE_WHITE okay I got you. I had a Sony document at one time that described each of those, I’ll see if I can dig it up. I also go live on Monday nights and take live questions too
Superb man! The last bit you did balancing aperture with ISO to keep exposure the same, that was just brilliant demonstration of ISO performance. Never have I ever seen anyone do it like that on RU-vid. I am looking to buy FX30 and was really curious about its low light performance, your demonstration cleared a lot of doubts. ISO 6400-8000 looks very usable. Although ISO 5000 would be safest bet in low light. Thanks a lot.
Thank you for your excellent content. Would you recommend the 2-5 stop or the 6-9 stop if I mostly vlog on my smartphone outside (at different times of the day)?
The A6400 will be a faster and easier to use to learn on. It will have more modern features. But if you want better image quality and a better camera, then I would Pick the A7Rii
I have bought this case for my new Macbook Pro in the last couple of weeks and overall I'm very happy with it. However, in the last few days I spotted some forum posts recommending against casing MacBooks at all. They said cases could put pressure on the display half, weaken the hinge, and stifle the cooling mechanisms. Do you think this is true? Should I need to worry for my Mac if I plan to use the Supcase for many more years? I really don't know if it's true or fake and how does the Supcase fit in to these comments... Will be grateful for your opinions.
I am still using this case. My initial concern was the weight it added to the screen. After 2 years and counting I have never had an issue with the hinges or the screen. I believe improper installation or removal may be a contributing factor for the screen damage. Cooling has never been an issue for me. It is rare that I stress the MacBook Pro 14” base model enough to get hot. While I see the case may insulate the shell of the laptop from being able to shed some heat. The primary cooling vents are still fully open and can function. Ultimately I think it can be an issue under very stressful work loads, but not the everyday user. I feel over the last two years using this case it has done more good in protection, than harm.
@@MalcolmWalker thank you very much for your long reply. It has made me feel more secure now to keep my new Mac stay put in the Supcase :) Best regards and keep up the great reviews :) I have one last question. Do you think that the Mac with the Subcase would fit into a sleeve dedicated for a Macbook Pro 14 or can it be to big for that? I would rather know this before making the purchase.
Yes, the A7Riii would be terrific for that. If I ever find a good deal on one I would get it. I would replace my A7RII for it, but it would be a great camera.
