Welcome to Strabismus to Stereopsis! My name is Melissa Daniels and I am here to open a dialogue about strabismus and all the fun that goes with it.
I was born with strabismus and I have had 4 strabismus surgeries, patched for a total of 7 years, worn prism glasses for 10 years total, done vision therapy for 2 years and tried all sorts of solutions in between.
If there is a program, therapy, or product out there for strabismus, you can bet that I have tried it. Some have been AMAZING, others a total waste of time and money.
I'm creating this channel to educate the world about what I'm learning to save you a ton of time and resources.
And when your journey gets hard and you feel alone and like nobody understands what it's like to live with strabismus, I'm here to support you and give you the boost you need to keep going!

Do you know vivid vision, I saw that you wrote a review on them "" After my strabismus surgery, it was Vivid Vision Home that helped reteach my brain to use both eyes and it only took a few weeks to see a huge improvement. ""
Hi I asked a question on your last video but I didn’t get a reply so I’ll explain again I had strabismus surgery last year for exotropia in both eyes and now both eyes are beginning to move out again this happened only 3 weeks ago I notices it happening again do you recommend any eye excersises to help this stop this and help improve depth perception and I’m worries now because I don’t want my strabismus to come back please help me
Whats your opinion on permanent prism use in glasses. After I graduated VT my doctors said to use some prism (4BO) but they made me so dizzy. I felt sick for almost a week after trying them. I feel horrible when their off and I have computer/reading glasses that don't require them. I don't think they are good for me but its the only option the doctors offer.
Hi there I’ve had strabismus surgery on both eyes I have exotropia in both eyes and now the lazyeyes is coming back in and I don’t know what to do do you recommend any excursuses to strengthen both eyes and also how do I identify my weak eye anyways I hope it goes pls help And also I know you said adult onset strabismus but I had my surgery a year ago and I’m young but I need some advice sorry I had the exact same problem as u exotropia. In both eyes since you had the same problem do you recommend anything
Are you strabismus from birth?? Because I have been squinting since birth and the doctors have told me that it will never get cured..... I have lost all my hope and dreams 🙂
My eye has turned in after the operation even though it was so straight following it for 4 days! Now it's stuck inside it was originally outwards facing but only 50% of the time now it's permanently in there im on day 6 I'm so scared I feel so ugly 😭
Hey i have some questions 1)is there a time limit in which you have to get the surgery done? As vt only works if the defect is detected early. So is this the case with surgery too? As i have had a lazy eye from the past 4 years now and I'm currently 17. So if i get surgery will it be fully effective or am i late? 2) do i need to be above 18 to get the surgery done? 3)As you told me you just got it done so did it hurt? Because this would be the first surgery i would be getting so I'm scared. So tell me please .
How long has your surgery lasted? Did you need to touch it again after your initial surgery? If yes, how long after your initial surgery did you have to do another one?
Your eyes are beautiful and so straight! My first thought was, how does she know how it feels? And then you put your photo, dear me! Thank you for your time xx
It takes much more than one exercise for strabismus. You need many different exercises to address the different parts of strabismus. You can find a vision therapy office at strabismussolutions.com/findvt/
Hi Melissa I’m 31 y/o and I got strabismus surgery 26 hours ago. My left eye was an outward squint whilst my right eye was my main focus eye. Ofc I am seeing double now. When is it safe to do exercises to help stop double vision? When will it go away?
Usually, exercises shouldn't be started for 4-8 weeks depending on the healing process and they must be very gentle at first. Work with peripheral vision is great to start right away and it can help with the double vision. My mastering peripheral course can help. learn.strabismussolutions.com/mastering-peripheral-vision
Hi many thanks for sharing - this is going to be a bit of self centered ramble but Id like to give some history before and welcome any advice. I have been aware of vision therapy for a few years now - but in the UK I think the general medical community sees it as 'alternative' - aplogies to anyone if this is not the case just my impression. I'm in my mid fifties and wasnt diagnosed with ambliopia (right eye) until I was about 10 years old. I was treated by patching my left eye - my vision in the right eye was not improved but I developed double vision - and still have it. Though I have a squint no one made any mention of it - not parents , medical professionals, responsible adults etc. My desire for having stereoscopic vision has never eased - but due to the fact that previous treatment was I believe - bungled - makes me feel somewhat warey of any new treatment making things worse. As an adult about 15 years or so ago I had botox treatment to bring my right eye into line but still had the double vision - and the squint. So Iam encouraged by your exoeriences but dont know who to approach for expert advise. If youmade it through this ramble - thanks and please and I very much welcome your advice. 👍
This is a great question and you have valid concerns. VT is definitely considered alternative pretty much all over the world which is a code word for expensive. It does work and it would definitely make a difference for you. The book, "Crossed and Lazy Eyes" by Pilar Vergara would be perfect for you. It goes through case studies very similar to yours and how vision therapy helped. amzn.to/3LKuvqY You can also go to strabismussolutions.com/findvt/ to find a vision therapy office. @@strabismustostereopsis7799 Hi many thanks for your reply - thanks for the book recommendation- I’ve now got it and am reading with great interest. I would love to speak over zoom in the very near future - very shortly after I have digested the book. 👍
Thank you!!! I had my surgery 2 days back for the left eye. After surgery my left eye came inward, before it is outward. Is it normal? and also when i will get my eye into the normal position. I am bit worried sister.😢
I'm sorry, I know that can be so disappointing, unfortunately, it is very common for the eye to go the opposite direction. The position can adjust quite significantly for the first few weeks, then a bit for the next few months. Vision therapy can help get full alignment that stays, go to strabismussolutions.com/findvt/ to find an office.
When I am doing the test with the two images moving apart, I only see one, and then sometimes I suddenly see two, or for a while it starts alternating relatively quickly from one eye to the other. My eyes both appear to work fine, pre surgery it seemed my left was dominant, but post, it seems more 50/50 as to which is being used more. But with Amblyoplay I have been able to get them working together sometimes. I haven't been using it too long yet. I like to do eye calisthenics, then amblyoplay, then go play with the marsden ball, and have had good luck being able to see the letters/numbers on both colors relatively often for a while
With the two images moving apart, you should only see one that is floating towards you and getting smaller or away from you and getting bigger. If you see only one image that is moving left or right, that means you are suppressing one eye. If you see two, both eyes are on but you aren't fusing. The goal is one image floating.
Thanks, I understand how it is supposed to work now. I kind of get a bit of everything. Sometimes it works, sometimes it's side to side, sometimes it alternates
They gave it to me, but said to either just look at a non led light, or out a window if I didn't have incandescent lights.. So I would just stare out the window with these, and it seemed like a waste of time. I wasn't actively doing anything with my eyes. I don't think they were helpful for what I needed, which was to try and get my eyes working together after strabismus surgery to correct a life long eye turn, but I was always seeing periphery from both eyes, it is sort of central patchy that was supressing. Amblyoplay seems to be helping the most.
Im dealing with a weak right eye turning inward. (Esotropia) As of late after doing vision therapy activities the right eye will often straighten out but then the left eye will turn in. Giving me double vision. Any suggestions?
OK,OK,OK,OK,OK,OK! I though that something in my eyes isnt okay, but i see 1 thumb and 2 little finger when i focus on it! Btw,I see little bit a double in a background.
i have exotropia and my eyes were like that for a long time where they would be straight in the mirror and then mess up when looking away. now after some years, my eyes are not as straight anymore when looking in the mirror... not horrible but definitely noticeable to me and everyone else can see that my eyes have been getting worse. im getting eye surgery in a few weeks to hopefully fix this problem because it is something I've been dealing with pretty much my whole life and don't want things to get any worse.
My daughter 8 years old had little strabismus hardly noticeable. We went to an optometrist and she was told to wear glasses and do patching for 3 months. We did. Things improved then 2 weeks she was not wearing them and her strabismus went really bad! We went to another doctor optometrist, and she prescribed stronger glasses and advised against patching. Her strabismus improved little with glasses, but without glasses, it was worse. So now I m waiting for an appointment with other doctors and after reading reviews here I m thinking maybe I should not do any glasses as the things get worse!
Due to a childhood eye injury my left eye turned outward. Over the years my vision as the vision in the eye worsened my eye began to turn inwards. Now it’s completely turned as far inward as possible. I’m so self conscious of it.
@@fearlessmatroix6859 I've been playing the original Doom games while patched 40 minutes - 2 hours a day and it seems to be getting better. Doesn't seem to affect my overall vision though so im starting practices using 3D glasses, the ones with the 2 colours as I heard it teaches both eyes to work together which is important.
