I agree. So unique.Lots of thought went into the creation of these type of tombstones.I have seen a few different design types on tree trunk tombstones also in the cemeteries I have visited so far. Thanks for commenting and thanks for watching.
Woodsman of America headstone. If you had an insurance policy between 1890 and 1900 a headstone was included in the policy. This is one of the most popular styles.
Very good to know.I was happy to wake up this morning to your comment. Now I know more about the tombstone that draws my attention the most. Can't wait to google Woodsman of America headstone and further research. Thanks for the knowledgeable comment and thanks for watching!
Local Newspaper article from the 1990's Ghost stays away from a witch hunt When Gundella the Witch goes looking for ghosts, spooky things can happen Take last week, when Gundella, also known as Marion Kuclo of Garden City, went to the old Butler/Ganong Cemetery in Westland. Mrs. Kuclo decided to search the cemetery on Henry Ruff Road after hearing reports that an attractive female spectre, clad in a flowing white gown, was fond of standing in the middle of the road outside the cemetery right where it curves the sharpest and spooking motorists. Some drivers have even blamed the ghost forcausing them to drive into ditches. But while hunting for the mischievous spirit, Mrs. Kuclo stumbled across an open grave with the broken boards of á casket Inside The casket contained a female skeleton. A skeleton with long, "strawberry blond hair," Mrs.Kuclo sald the broken stone on the grave was so old that we could not decipher all of the inscription. All that we could be certain of was the name "Alice." After leaving the cemetery,Kuclo called Westland police, who came out to check the open grave and had it filled in Officers say that no foul play was involved. They say the grave apparently was washed open by heavy rains, and then animals got in and scattered the bones. Is "Alice" the ghost of Butler/Ganong cemetery? Mrs. Kuclo, who fancies herself an expert on Detroit area ghosts and ghost stories, isn't sure. But, she says, if such things are really possible, no one can blame the ghost of poor Alice, if in the future, she joins the others already haunting intruders of the Butler burying grounds
Love visiting cemeteries with you! Just wanted to tell you that D.A.R. stands for Daughters of American Revolutionary War and the plaque stating the deceased was a soldier means it has been thoroughly researched and verified to be true.
In the video about 1/2 way through I mentioned I normally try to avoid filming tombstones if I can,let me clarify,I normally try to avoid filming modern day tombstones in case the family is watching the film.
True, however this one is surrounded by wealthy people living in wealthy houses. This community has no excuses, especially the city of Plymouth. This cemetery was in worse shape in 2005.A school teacher and his students spent the next 11 years until 2016 cleaning it up making it beautiful and somehow it became like this again.See this article www.freep.com/story/news/education/2016/09/29/shearer-cemetery-salem-teacher-restore/91211384/

Explanation for the meaning of the metal plate at minute 15:54 of the video.............The Improved Order of Red Men is a fraternal organization established in North America in 1834. It claims direct descent from the colonial era Sons of Liberty.[2] Their rituals and regalia are modeled after those assumed by men of the era to be used by Native Americans. Despite the name, the order was formed solely by, and for, white men.[2] This whites-only rule was part of their bylaws until 1974, when the all-white clause was eliminated. Their current position is that they are now open to people of all ethnic backgrounds.[2] In 1935 the organization claimed a membership of about half a million, but it has now[when?] declined to a little more than 15,000.
I enjoy seeing this type of historical stuff, especially after looking through family immigration records. It gives you an idea of what history really looked like prior to the modern civilization boom in the USA post WWII.
