@@AdventuresofHappyOurs I’m going to replace it with 3” thick marine plywood that is encased in epoxy and wrapped in aluminum. Should be good for another 30 years… I researched Starboard and other laminates and it isn’t recommended because of the flex when torque is applied. I only knew the history of the boat since we got it and everything has been replaced now!

This video was very helpful. I submerged my heat exchange and it came clean. It was incredible what flushed out with the hose. Once clean I found several pieces of old impeller on the inlet end. They were a pain to remove but I was glad I did. The generator runs fantastic now. The water out the side of the boat is much cooler now. The acid isn't cheap but worth every penny

@RandomlyAwkward1
@RandomlyAwkward1 16 дней назад
Glad it helped! Yes, check several things… make sure that you have enough oil in the generator because there is a low oil pressure shut off switch. The switch can also go bad and may need to be replaced. You can troubleshoot it by disconnecting it and if it continues to run, then the switch is your issue. You can also have a coolant air bubble. There’s a little bleeder valve screw up on top to burp out the air. The other is a poorly operating impeller that may need replacing. A piece of an old impeller vane may have broken off and is stuck in the heat exchanger or you could have an obstruction. I ran phosphoric acid through mine to get rid of the barnacles and mineral scale. Overheating from an obstruction in coolant flow or low oil pressure are usually the culprits. Also, check your pencil-shaped anode passageway for obstructions. Good luck!

Thank you! It’s really easiest if you just take every single piece off and redo it. It’s like a new boat but at a fraction of the cost. The one part that I did not replace was the transom, but that was a fall/winter project. It is now a right now project because the transom snapped in half down at Boca Grande the other day when we hit something submerged in the channel and broke it in half and left the engine dangling in the water. Thank goodness for Sea Tow. More videos to come!

DON'T DO THIS TO A SOFTENER! The filter you are adding the H2O2 to is an air draw filter, typically with catalytic carbon (not softener resin beads). This is important as adding peroxide to your softener resin can destroy it. The air draw filter is designed to oxidize the sulfide by trapping air inside the top of the filter which acts as an oxidizer when the water enters the top of the filter. Peroxide is a very strong oxidizer and will help clean the carbon a little. However, these filters should be serviced about once per year as there is a venturi type injector inside the head of the control valve that gets clogged. It will need to be cleaned from time to time to keep the filter drawing air as it should.
@RandomlyAwkward1
@RandomlyAwkward1 21 день назад
Thank you very much for the detailed information. I was taught by the person that installed the softener that this is the correct procedure for my softener. I will double check as to whether this is harmful or not.

I thought the plastic view bowl and drain was only used on outboard engines and not to be used in inboard applications due to cracking and fire hazard.
@RandomlyAwkward1
@RandomlyAwkward1 Месяц назад
That’s interesting and a valid point. This is the first time I have heard this, but it makes sense. No issues so far and the plastic bowl seems to be very heavy duty. Thank you! We paid 18k for the boat, but it had a new Mercruiser 350MPI and Bravo 3 (still under warranty) on it when we bought it, which is how much those two items cost originally. The electronics (Garmin 1243 xsv MFD, Radar, all new wiring , lighting, switch panels, NMEA 2000 network, Flatscreen TV, Refrigerator, AC, etc...probably another 10k, The interior was done by my wife, but the cushion foam, vinyl, and thread to sew was expensive...maybe 3k. The Bimini was done by a local guy who is very good and that was around 3k with the boots to cover them. The real savings is learning how to do everything ourselves and the satisfaction of knowing that we know how to fix things in the future. Cheaper to buy a new boat? Not even close to the price of a new boat...but we wouldn't trade the experience for anything. We also just re-did a 32 year old pontoon boat and it's just like new now. We paid $1,500 for the boat and trailer and then basically threw everything away and started over. Maybe 8-10k into that one but it parks right nevxt to the 50k pontoons on the sandbar and the beer is just as cold, plus ours has a bullet hole in the side of the fencing, which is kind of gangster!
