Hi all! I'm Sean and I work as a post audio engineer for films, television, commercials, and other media. This channel is dedicated to teaching what I've learned over the past decade of working in this field to others!

The role of any audio engineer is to help enhance a story. My goal is to help you all, as filmmakers and content creators, be able to better share your story with the world!

I share tutorials on the basics of post audio production, editing audio in Pro Tools, Nuendo, or Davinci Resolve's Fairlight, and SO much more!

So if that interests you please consider joining the community!

I hope to see you around!

~Sean Crone

You said "up to minus fourteen". For someone who is not immersed in the jargon of audio technology, that statement is confusing because up does not go in the minus direction in normal speaking. I would be interested to see a video explaining "how minus means more" and have that make sense to any normal person.

42:47 what's the sound effect name?

That one was a creepy girl saying mommy ringtone from 12ish years ago, if I remember right. Then I just edited it a bit to make it wider, bigger, and sound like it was going through a speakerphone. :)

What is that red area? Why did a red area appear when you brought it to the required level?
@postaudioformedia
@postaudioformedia Год назад
The red area would be the peaks of the audio going above the target of (-)20. Mostly peaks, anyways. It's very very difficult, unless you use a normalizing plugin, to exactly get set LUFS. Some festivals or broadcast specs will require normalization but I personally like to have those (+/-) 1-2 dB of variation. So the red area are those variations in audio levels above the target. I have an updated loudness video coming shortly, probably in the later half of August, which will do a lot better at explaining things then this old one :)

You keep saying that youtube compresses videos that are above it's threshold. But in stats for nerds it says the audio is normalized. Is there some reason you think, or know, that youtube is compressing the audio?
@postaudioformedia
@postaudioformedia Год назад
Hello! Yes, sorry. This video was made a few years ago and in my attempt to keep things informative without going down rabbit holes I accidentally interchanged normalization and compression. The joys of early RU-vid fumbles. 😅 I'm recording an updated one today, actually, that will have a much better explanation of the difference and what RU-vid is doing. Sorry for the confusion!

EASIER TIP (10 seconds). 1. Open Audacity <- free program 2. Open your audio file 3. Reverse it. 4. Add Reverb 5. Reverse it. DONE!

Great advice and a nice breakdown! I wish I've seen the video sooner :) I have a question not necessary regarding youtube, but when mastering music in general, especially for streaming services, what is the recommended rule of thumb for true peak ceiling? I try to go -0.3 to -0.5 db
